Well the box is out and now down at the G/box Gurus. The diagnosis was in fact the quill shaft... well done that man. Thank you Frank for the info on g/box removal, we got it out in 2.5 hrs as opposed to the sub 1 hr your guys manage. It IS the g/box with uprated 1st and 2nd gears I was told by the Guru who in fact recognised the box in question. The only downside is that he is so busy he can't repair mine for 2 weeks but after chatting to him at some length I know that it will come back as good as new.

Once again this list is proving invaluale for information.

One more question please......... the silver bullet racing type mirrors are totally useless........ any idea for a dorr/window mounted mirror for both sides ?
