His car was not road registered because it was in USA spec and had to be adapted to UK spec i.e. the lights (the direction of the beams) were in the right position for lefthand drive and had to be repositioned for righthand drive.
They lent him the Ford Demonstrator and let him loose on the Rockingham track.
Later they said he had got his car but since it was lefthand drive he had to be very carefull on overtaking in this country.
