Contact Cement was originally used on RF80 with the result that when I recived the car the heat shield was falling off especially were the pipes heated the deck when open. I replaced it with a self adhesive material called Zer Clearance. It is designed to protect body work and floor pans from direct exhaust heat and workes very well, See details here

With the clip closed you feel very little heat on the rear deck and the adhesive does not come loose with heat.
