MDA Mk1 with Gulf Arches - Martin P

Hi Marcel,
Yes, you have valid concerns. I've been doing some thinking on this and right now I'm postponing any thoughts of actually installing an oil cooler for my Gearbox. It seems that for the 930 Porsche box, several people are advising me that unless I do serious racing (which I am not) then I really don't need an oil cooler on the box at all, just a vent pipe.
If I do install it, it will not be facing down onto the vent hole, but upright. Therefore the air would be doing a 90 degree turn to get into the car, then another 90 degree turn into the cooler, then out the back of the car through the rear grille. I think this would be sufficient to catch any gravel if I installed the right sort of mesh/grille as any speeding debrit will hit the vent first, then the mesh/grille, and hopefully that would be enough.
If I progress with it, then of coarse I'll post pics and progress.
Happy New Year to you too.

Hi Tom,
Yes, I had the clip, open, closed, open, closed all morning while I was fitting it to get the correct depth for the eye. No interference I'm glad to say but thanks for posting, it's a good tip for anyone attempting it. It's the biggest factor in where to put it.

Another modification.
I wanted the front cross bar as seen on original MK1's. However, I wanted it to be functional and not just cosmetic. I fabricated some strong brackets from 4mm thick steel to attach to the MDA Chassis. I had them fabricated with gussets to add strength so I could be sure they would not deform. They fit around the Radiator. The idea is to attach a front toe eye to one of them. The bar was then welded in and is 2mm thick steel tube.
There is a 7cm gap between the Rad and the bar which should be enough for my air con condensing rad to fit in between.
I'm very pleased with the results. It's not finally fixed to the car yet but you get the general idea. It will eventually be black.

While on the subject of Modifications, I've been busy this weekend.:2thumbsup:
I took a look at the front end with regards to engineering the air flow and took my first step to getting the flow of air a bit better.
I firstly closed the gap between the bottom of the Radiator and the front of the body. This was quite large and I felt that air could easily find it's way under the car rather than going through the rad. Secondly I made a small deflector which guides the air up and over the front hinge bar and away from the bottom of the Rad which has a small gap, again, where air could easily find its way.

A few more parts gathered.

1. The necessary attachment for an original Lucas interior mirror which I have coming
2. Fog and Reverse lights including brackets
3. 'Green' Marker light to go with my Red one. I can change them depending on my mood now.

looking for a source for the front marker lights that attach to the front cross bar. Anyone know what they are or where I can get them ?

Latest purchase, Thanks Craig.

Lucas Mirror. On further inspection, the back of the mirror is stamped 1968. Couldn't be more appropriate.

Hi Martin

Good to see your car the other day. Looking very good, even up close! :). Mind you, get a lighter gearbox, my neck still hurts from lifting that anchor out of the chassis!
