Seems interesting, but I dont like this bit: "The new URC series plans to feature identically prepared NuArt CanAm cars...".

So in the end, its just going to be a spec series.

Emphasis on the word "identically". "Unlimited" and "identically" seem to be inconsistent terms in regards to motorsports.

Hmmm, lessee maybe we can fix this somehow... How about "there are no limits to how identical the cars will be?"

Seriously, I guess what they're saying is:

  1. The cars they build will be identical to each other.
  2. There will be no limits imposed on them (the builders) by any external entity as to the way the cars are built. Well, this being America and all, .... so what?
It's either that or "these cars are a tribute to some earlier cars which were themselves unlimited." But lack of limits does not transfer with tribute, so that's kind of silly too.

Furthermore, it looks like this is going to be very much amateur racing... Though, that could make things exciting. Drop $485K on a ready to run race car and then go racing! It says these cars are "flexible for a wide range of driver skills", I guess anyone can drive them!

Somehow I don't think this series is going to last to long, and after it goes away, maybe there will be some nice cheap M8F or M20 clones out in the market.
 
Cool idea, I like it. I'd love to see those cars racing.

What would be really innovate (and exciting) to see is professional level racing without the race to the bottom of who can throw the most money at it. There's always somebody who's willing to throw more money at it than the next guy in an attempt to gain an edge, and see their team's name in the spot light. That's really lame-O. I have the most admiration for a team/driver that does well and spends less $ than the next guy, and demonstrates some sportsmanship in the process. I see it in amateur racing all the time - the guy in scca who gets in the top 5 with a really tired old race car and 3 year old rubber and no team support. That's impressive. Love to see some of that on a professional level.
 
I wonder if this is an FSAE sourced, Hayabusa powered, prototype

I was on my schools FSAE team, and I can tell you that the car pictured is well outside the FSAE rule book.

The car in question in the Adams Escort Can-am.. developed by Herb Adams.

It was powered by a 5 liter SBC and raced in the lame duck second generation of can-am in 1983.
It entered 4 races and finished 2, finishing poorly at that. Its competition was quite stiff being up against converted F-5000 cars...

The Can Am series from the late '60s to the early '70s was some of the best racing in history. Donohue, Revson, Hulme, McLaren and others. Whoever drives in this new series will share the same thrills, although their lap times will be about double what they were 40 years ago.
