Hi Ian,
its to clear the radiator edges, have a look at GT40P 1049

Here is the front of P1049 next to my car.
There are a few cars out there with this front modification.
I am using an original Serck brass radiator and the reliefs help avoiding clashing with the thin brass envelope when the front clip is dropped on.
There are also two aluminium rubbing strips protecting the top corners of the radiator.

I have decided to cut the holes in my lower light pods to fit the road car lights instead of the Cibie spots which we fitted to Alistair's racer.
A small upgrade to the orange indicator however as I am fitting a pair of matching period Marchals which are better made fittings than the usual Prince o' Darkness rubber boot kit.

Great news about the progress. Looking forward to seeing it finished. Might have to cross the pond to see it in person.

I'm still hoping someone can come up with the paint code for the blue on P1049. My car is currently Porsche Midnight Blue which it turns out is black 80% of the time. Not looking to to make a clone of P1049 just like the blue color. Sorry for the drift, "and now back to our regularly scheduled programming".

We have had a bit of trouble recently finding a good fit bell housing.

Well, I found this original 4-bolt bellhousing a while back and although the lower lugs are missing it is in great shape and still of good use to me.
I am now having it 3D scanned to make a new casting pattern.

Alloy fuel tanks going in.
These took quite a bit of work but the original sparge collector, baffles, return unit and level sensor fittings have been configured and built into the tank design.

Fuel vents, original design but fitted with in-line roll-over safety valves.

The tank sketches were accurate enough and everything went in nicely, albeit a bit fiddly.
Some sealant to remove on the locking covers.
Fuel pumps tested OK but Alistair is now retrofitting all of the seals on the Stewart Warners.

Another shot of progress. The Ford Racing covers were only fitted as protection for the engine lift. The original style covers with the catch tanks are being fitted soon.

I believe these are coalescers.

The MK1 street cars usualy came with cast aluminum COBRA valve covers made by Buddy Bar in southern Ca. and the exact same as used on early shelbys.

The Mk1 competition coupes usualy came with the tall boxed valve covers made on 1964 1/2 to 1966 289 non lettered valve covers. These were used to help stop the oil from blowing out of the breathers. The idea was that the high pressure from the crankcase would pass thru a small opening into a large as possible low pressure area ( The box) and the oil would seperate from the air and fall to the bottom of the box and then drain thru a hose on each side back to the oil pan. These valve covers were needed as the usable RPMs rose and straight aways grew. Another issue that caused blowby was the increased stroke of some of the small block engines that moves the rod throws further away from centerline and into the oil reserve of the pan. 347s have alot off added windage and Ford was playing with strokers themselves back then as well.

I had that problem with my 331 Jimmy. When I first started using it in anger it would rapidly fill the catch tank within a few laps. I copied those original additions and the problem was cured at a stroke. (No pun intended!)
I was also told that another cure was to enlarge the drainage holes in the block, but the boxes seemed an easier fix and worked, so I stopped there.

Alistair's car is complete and he turned over the engine first time last week.
I retired from work last month so this one should move a bit now.

You know that you are welcome over here anytime mate.
