M20 Dreaming

Bought oil coolers and Radiators and end up getting a M8F/M20 steering rack from Vintage engineering as well as the valve covers. The boxes have started to turn up on the courier now, 4 oil coolers and 2 radiators last week and a letter from NZ Customs wanting money so they will release my fuel pump and parts, I'm guessing I will be getting a few of them over the next few weeks. This week it is wheels to get to the foundry and fuel tanks to make so I can get the tops and side pontoons on the tub, will post photos once that's done. Cheers Leon

How goes it Leon? Got my new sleeves in my aluminum 427 sbc. Got my wheels and a few more suspension pieces, titanium plate for the bottom of the car so as not to take any debris up through the floor not any vital areas. I'm going to start on the build table as soon as I can I think I have everything to build it. So hopefully soon I will start in ernest.

hello guys, hope everyone had a good Christmas. Santa has been coming a lot the last 2 weeks but the last package turned up today, Cam driven water pump. I have now installed the fuel tanks so I can put the tops on the side pods and attach the radiator pontoons. I have fitted the 2 Alloy radiators which have a few mods, -16 AN fittings on the out lets and have to decide how I will route the return water I have 4 out lets on the intake manifold so I have 2 options, 1) Route 2 hoses to the top of each radiator via AN-12 fittings 2) plumb the 4 into an alloy tube with AN-16 out each side. I have sent all my suspension arms/links etc to be Electricless Nickel plated, and having anodizing done as well. I have my front uprights with the alloy pindrive hubs and Wilwood brakes done. Picked up the Chrome Moly rear hubs this morning so will get the rear uprights done this week. Chopped the front off the tub to rebuild it as per the photos The guys from Autotune sent me so that will also be finished this week. I have to resize the photos so Ill get them up soon. Cheers Leon

Let see if this has worked, and yes it did so I will get some more photos up soon. That is the Vintage Engineering rack that I'm starting to mount in the first photo and I have now done the pins on the front upright in photo 2. cheers Leon

Hi Leon
Glad to hear that the tub photos I sent have been of use ! I look forward to seeing how you progress !
Cheers
Richard Taylor

Been working flat out, My fuel tanks have now been leak tested and are in the Tub. Put he tops on today and will finish them and attach the radiator pontoons. the front is now finished but I will wait until the rack is installed be for I nail the dash on. My builder mate Kelvin has been busy setting the buck up solid so we can finish it ready to lay up the mold. We are putting some fullness into the tops of the wheel arches as I have found they are not flat after looking at some profile drawing, hence the wood you see on the wheel arches in the photos. will post more as we progress. cheers Leon

Look at you go!
Two part expanding foam might be an option for gross building up of low areas. Easy to form with a cheese grater tool as well.

Hi Rob
I used that expanding foam around the sides and over the rear wheel arches it is easy to work but if you go through the bog it's very soft, layering the wood is a more solid base and most of the shape is formed in the wood and a thin layer of bog is all that's needed to finish it off. We are hoping to have the first body by the end of the month. Cheers Leon

Leon
I finish coated my molds with a product called Durotec, a polyester hi build that sanded like a dream and after 1200 grit sanding almost ended up with a shine. It left a fantastic surface that McGuires Canuba wax polish x 5 coat`s and everything just fell of it, no hang ups at all.
Cheers

Hey Guys, thanks for that, I had be trying to remember what you had used as you had said how good it was. hopefully I will need it by the end of next week. Fitted the Radiator pontoons on yesterday and all my suspension bits are on the courier today so will be putting it together and running brake lines etc next week. Just waiting for one little part to come from Ray for my steering rack but you know what the mail like this time of year. Cheers Leon

Duratec 'Styroshield'? I didn't know there was such a thing as a blocker/primer for direct to cheap polystyrene styrofoam sealing, I'm sticking this in my bag of tricks for future use.

For high build priming (not for-direct-to-foam) I use Fiberglass Evercoat G2, builds fast, cures quick, sands easy and is about 80 dollars US per gallon.
