Re: 1086 for sale on Ebay

Bid is $200,000 and reserve not met yet.

A lot of people mix up Carbon fibre with kevlar, and carbon fibre was very new on the market and almost secretative !!!
That is what the Gulf cars got as reinforcement on their body work, wich were otherwise very “light weight” !
Don´t know the facts for 1086...
Say´s that is have been recently “freshened up” !!
More or less to Gulf spec.
With a few ad ons as well.
Boss´s were never used at the time.
Otherwise looks to have very right pieces in general....

This is a proper car altough completed at a very late date.
No racing history or such, but it is a healthy one as said.
Chassis is a production run but the “car” is a post production assembly.or how you want to fraze it.
No fascinating history, but it is history it self.
As with a lot of others...
Fascinating or not, renovated or not, crashed or not etc...etc...
They are it!, no matter how you twist it.

”GT40 P1086 was not actually numbered at the time of its construction.
It had apparently reached the stage of being a rolling chassis when production ceased and it sat around until John Willment decided to buy it himself in 1971.
Hence there is no construction sheet for this car.
Willment owned the rights to the JWA name and gave the car the next chassis number in sequence from the end of the production run.
No serious attempt was made to build the car up until the late 1970s, and it was eventually completed in Brian Angliss “CP Autocraft” workshops in 1984.
It was finished to a very high standard and was in Gulf livery”

So then it is a FAV/Abbey tub built up as a JWA car, as the other late ones..
JWA “made” the last cars and entered them...
They took over the business after Ford withdrawn...
About the same people.places and parts....

It has had about 5 to 6 owners or so...
It was included in the panorama shots at the Glen etc..
Featured in magazines and won some exhibition contest somewere...

Sold at Duncan Hamilton & Co.Ltd.,UK in -84 something.
