GTD/CAV values

Just flicking thru the April edition of Classic & Sportscar;

p196 For sale GTD40 - asking price £45,000

p169 'Newly built' CAV sold at auction for £72,939

Is it just me or have values rocketed?

Re: GTD/CAV values

IMHO that auction was not a real sale.
Prices on everything are way down in the US and not much is selling.

Re: GTD/CAV values

I've been following sales prices of finished GT40 replicars in the US for three months.

The average asking price (regardless of make) is $75k USD.

Cherner Classics has had two brand new CAVs on ebay (and other for sale ads) complete and turn-key and were asking $75k for a standard one and $80k for a wide-body 425hp one. The $75k met its reserve, the $80k car has stalled repeatedly at $67k at end of auction.

There was also a gulf-color scheme CAV on ebay and it only got to $45k (didn't meet the reserve).

There is a GT40 for sale in a showroom in Salt Lake City (believe it's a GTD but not sure) and it was just reduced to $65,900:

FAV has had their tube-frame demo CAV for sale for some time for about $69k.

VIP classics claims they are going to have a "1 to 2 year waiting list" and "I have to call several people about the car that came in" yet it's still on their lot...maybe it's just a demo though.

There's a "professionally constructed" GT40 for sale on KitCars.com in San Francisco that has 2500 miles and the owners is asking $73k....it has a Renault transaxle so I assume it's a GTD. Don't know if that car has been sold, the ad got 13126 hits on it but no pictures are posted.

That Barret Jackson $118k car was a fluke IMHO.

As a shopper in the market, I just cant justify paying more than $80k for this sort of vehicle and I ended up requiring it to be fully race legal to even consider (cage, fire system, fuel cells). The advantage of it being a replicar is I can register and drive it on the street (unlike any other race car) but once the thing gets over $80k, I have to do a reality check personally. Any of the cars I've mentioned would be strong candidates if I didn't have the race requirement and are priced where I would definitely consider them so, personally, I find the average car for sale is priced about right in the US.

Interestingly, a "full race" GTD car is for sale in the UK for $88k...aparently the personal car of "the director of GTD".
