Norman
Thanks. If you look closely at the 11th pic from the top towards the rear of the top of the fuel cell you can see the dent that Bruce McLaren made when he thru down his helmut and set off after the tail section which had blown off on the Mulsanne on that June day in 1967. As I get older it's the dents and nicks I've come to appreciate.

All I know is that I'm glad that it's someone like you who has the responsibility of keeper of the history. It's more involved than most folks realize.
But ya' know what really gets me ? Having to go to a Ferrari forum to see a GT40.

I have heard J-6 at full chat at Watkins Glen and can only say it's better than sex! Well, when you get to be my age you will agree, for those who do not need a "little blue helper" it may be second, but a close second!
In fact I watched Carroll Smith do the crew chief thing while I stood above on the pit roof during the 1989 GT 40 reunion. Pretty cool! As he beat the knock-offs with a BFH my wife asked "what is he mad about?"
I too, am glad that someone as enthusiastic and approachable as Jim has custody of such a wonderful piece of history. The previous owner was a little full of himself...

It's a iron headed TP. At LeMans they ran these heads. Among my spares I have alum TP (SK) heads but they look like they were never used. At LeMans they used mech linkage for the Holleys but on the street I use vaccumme for the secondaries. I also use mufflers that Borla made for me for a little silencing and a bit more backpressure for more low and midrange torque. I use drop gears to gear down to 4:56/1 rather than the 2:50/1 they ran at LeMans. On the street it gives me a more usable power range and as the Beach Boys said "I get rubber in all 4 gears." I've parked the LeMans valve train , pistons, and cams to run on pump unleaded and be able to rev a little higher as the original valve springs weren't as robust. I now red line at 7000 but usually shift at about 6500. If you look at the pics you can see the original strip thermomitors that they used at LeMans stuck to the header tank and the water tube. I've tried to preserve the patina of this car as much as possible. I have a huge quanity of spares including a spare race motor that Carrol Smith built for the previous owner. I consider myself to be a lucky custodian of a great piece of history. The motor is dry sumped (25 quarts of 40W Valvoline) and the headers are the ones that ran at LeMans.

Rep Power: 7 | Re: Many Photos of MK-IV J6 I'm slowly, but surely, getting an education on the TP engines... saw some heads and a TP intake out at the swap meet last month... the port velocity on those monsters has got to be terrible at low rpm...
I like the idea of going to 4.56:1 gear in J6.. I can imagine it would be difficult to use the 2.50 and 223 mph in the daily driver mode.
Jim, you're livin' the dream. Enjoy!
btw... I'm driving my '69 Shelby GT350 on Hot Rod Magazine's Power Tour early next month.
I'm sure J6 would be a big hit with that crowd... I'll buy the gas, if you'll let me ride.
Oh yea... loved the comment "Is that an old Viper?" Peolple involved with cars at this level are really great... with unusual senses of humor.

Even with all we've done this motor doesn't really clear out until about 4000. Below that it can make it through town to the highway but it dumps a lot of raw fuel into the exhaust and wants to load up. When that fuel ignites and shoots out 4 foot flames it does keep the tailgaters away. Once it clears out it just keeps on trucking and it feels stronger and stronger.

Rep Power: 7 | Re: Many Photos of MK-IV J6 Now I understand why they pushed the cars to the grid at Lemans.... read somewhere it was done to keep from fouling plugs... makes sense, with a high final drive gear, trying to idle a TP/FE through the pits to the starting area... man those cylinders would be drowning in fuel...

I wonder how you can feel quiete when you are showing your car !!
With my GTD i always feel stressed on tracks events when children and non respectable guys turn around, tuch it, ask me so much questions that i can not reply . so i can not imagine you with this piece of history...
My dad was at Le Mans when these car was racing,so funny ! It is nice to see it in such conditions, She(not "it") looks ready for the next 24 hours ...
Thanks for the dream, sorry but i stole some pics !

Does your Dad remember my car or my P4?
So far the places I've shown it people have been very respectfull. I do keep an eye on it and always go with enough friends to help me out. Fred I truely believe it could run next weekend. The MK-IV's are very strong cars and they love those French roads!
