Steering Rack

G,day there,
Some will remember US, (problems with the GT40 parts from ex GTD) However we are back on track again as Clyde has made a start to re build the GT40. What he is wondering is; if anyone would know what GTD would have used as a steering rack as he cannot find anything in New Zealand to match it!!

I can not be 100% but I believe that the used either a Cortina or Escort rack. Try them !!!!

Thanks for your reply Robert, Clyde says it is not from either an Escort or Cortina.
Next question:- Do you supply the GLASS rear window for the bonnet? (over the motor).
Just to add an extra snippet, as you followed the Forum on our saga, and we ended up by saying we were lucky to get any parts from u no hoo, turns out now that Clyde has started again and into the parts that did turn up, the wiring is wrong, this and that dont fit, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif but we will overcome those problems.

I don't think this is an easy one to answer for your steering rack problems. The Poole GTDs definately used a cortina rack and I get them for under £30 from my local autofactor. But if I remember correctly you have the Marsh/GTD saga car. When I saw one of these they had made changes to the footwells and I think also to the rack position all of which I can't remember any detail on. This may mean they used a different rack. I would be surprised if they didn't, as the cortina is an old car and the supply of racks will not be infinte.

This doesn't help much but hopefully someone out there also has a late GTD cahssis and can help. If you want part numbers for the cortina item I keep a box that I bought the last one in so can quote you those on request.
