#1075 Body Accuracy

I am in the intial stages of ordering a GT40 with the 1075 flares but have several questions. Which manufacturer makes the most accurate of the original. The CAV looks very good but the flares look too high and the lower panels under the doors look too squared off (gas tanks) which makes the cars side look too slab sided. The RF looks better but I do not have good enough pictures to compare. Someone on the forum here has a #1075 replica by RF but I cannot find the pictures. I have been comparing CAV pictures with one I took of the original 1075 at Road America and there is definitely a difference. Do you guys agree? What are your thoughts? Sorry to be soo long winded.

RF40 in gulf colours, with Hershal's RF40. BOTH very nice cars.

Re: #1075 Body Accuracy

NSXER,

I understand what you are saying about accuracy importance (ie.the squared off gas tanks). However the beauty of the GT40 is that every angle makes a different picture. It wasn't until I saw a car personally did I come to the conclusion that pictures DO NOT do these cars justice. They are very curvy, low and well proportioned. My suggestion to you is to go out and see all these cars. You will make a more satisfying choice that way.

Re: #1075 Body Accuracy

NSXER,
My car was recently parked side-by-side with another 2 RF40s. I had people insist that my car had a different body shape to the others. I had to convince them that the only difference was the color... oh, and I agree with GT40LM. You have to see one in real life to truly understand its lines.

Re: #1075 Body Accuracy

I have updated my website to include some shots from Monterey 2003 including 1075. You can compare the rear end of 1075 with those of the Blue CAV demonstrator. I think they agree quite well . Here are a couple of shots taken from slightly different angles:

Re: #1075 Body Accuracy

Thanks for the pics. I took a ton of pictures of a Gulf painted CAV with flares at Road America last year as well as the original 1075 that was there. To me the RF flares and side tanks look better. The CAV flares look very good but bubble out more and do not smooth in with the body near the door as well. I would love more pics of the RF GT40 with Gulf paint though if anyone has some as well as a CAV with Gulf paint and flares. I think that a gentleman in Canada has one exactly as one I am planning on ordering one. I also think that the ride height of the car has a lot to do with it. The lower the better, especially with the taller (non-low profile) tires. Pictures do not do these cars justice. All of them look great but I am pretty particular especially when I will be putting down a large sum of money.

Re: #1075 Body Accuracy

I understand that. Check with Ian Clarke and he should have several photos of the Gulf painted CAV.
