Challenge for Ron Earp!

Ron, did you ever have any ancestors in the UK? I have just read an article on the Brighton Speed Trials which mentioned a certain Mr Earp as setting FTD on one of the earliest events (pre WW1). The speed recorded was 92 mph and it was noted that this was only 12 mph less than the world speed record at that time.

So when you come over here for your tour, are you going to honour the family name and go just 12 mph less than the current world speed record? 842 mph required!

Re: Challenge for Ron Earp!

Brett, you need to be more specific than that!!! They have run standing km, 1/2 mile and 1/4 mile. I only have ever done the latter two distances.

However in my time I think 190 mph or thereabouts comes to mind. The bikes this last year were massively fast at about 170mph in a 1/4 mile.

Fastest 40 is about 140mph so far.

Of course JP plans to reset the balance here!

Re: Challenge for Ron Earp!

Malcolm, excellent find!! Know anything else about this gentleman? My mom had done a lot of family tree work and located our previous ancestors in England but I don't know a lot of the details. I will check with her and see if she knows more.

If they let me drive that damn thing, what was it called, Thrust something or another, twin engined turbine car, I'll give it a go!!! I've got a pilot's licence, but I'm not rated for turbines.... yet!

Re: Challenge for Ron Earp!

His name was Clifford Earp and the I think the year was 1905. He was driving a Napier. 23 Seconds for the flying start km at 92.88 mph.
