Rep Power: 10 | Re: what replica is this? "is this a GT40?"
from the sales blurb
"The car is in excellent condition"
no it's not
"and is a perfect choice to enter vintage events, historic rallies or tracks days."
how it got FIA certification is beyond me
" The mechanics, gearbox and instrumentation are original"
the gearbox is sort of original although it has non original mounts. The mechanics and instrumentation are not even original.
"while the chassis is a replacement after the original was scrapped following a heavy accident."
as if it had an original chassis at one time and someone restored it with a tube frame chassis? NOT!
" This nice car isn't different than an original Ford GT 40"
Not even!
"apart from the price, as they all worth over 1,000,000 EUR! It can be purchased for the total price of 150,000 EUR."
30,000 EUR would be too much.
from Trevor Legate's latest book
P/1058
Road car. Red. Shipped to Dearborn and sold to Ford/Shelby dealer Al Grillo. Sold in 1969 to John 'Skip' Barber (Skip Barber Driving School). Painted yellow. Gurney Weslake heads. Sold in 1970 to current owner Harvey Siegel. Restored. painted white/blue stripes. |

Rep Power: 27 | Re: what replica is this? hey Bill, what do u know about sbarro's creations..here some people I know (rich ones) say they have some of his cars.

Rep Power: 21 | Re: what replica is this? Paul,
Franco S is probably one of the world's most
accomplished automotive forgers.
He's quite creative in his own right, but
has blurred the truth just a wee little bit
about many of the cars that he has sold
over the years.(documented cases of blatant
fraud).

Rep Power: 12 | Re: what replica is this? I'm pretty sure that this 1058 is not a Sbarro recreation (his were monocoques), but it is a car that a few people on this forum will know the history of.
150,000 euros for a tube frame car just because it has FIA papers? I don't think so. If it obtained these papers under false representation (ie that it is THE 1058), I would not want to be the new owner. I would not want to be selling the car either...

Rep Power: 10 | Re: what replica is this? Take careful note of the sales pitch in the ad. It's worded in order to fool the unwary but also to limit liability. It's not straight out saying it's an original but it is implying that it might have been at one time or has some original parts.
I've seen this at auctions, they don't straight out lie so they won't get caught but they imply just enough to fool the uneducated. |

Rep Power: 8 | Re: what replica is this? According to Ronnie Spain's book P1058 was despatched as a road car on the 23/12/1966! Original Specs a 289 HiPo running webers; Carman Red. How it got FIA papers is beyond me when they say it got built in 1965??? But I think it was Sbarro who created a new car (doing a simplified run of ten GT40's); the chassis number P1033 being one of them. Substituting for the burned out original!!!

Rep Power: 27 | Re: what replica is this? sure ..that0s right.
I just wanna see how they will justify such price for such cars...and just now i get my answer:
Dear Paolo,
Yes 150,000 Euros is the final price.
The car really looks original but I would spend 20,000 euros to make it concourse and race ready with an engine + gearbox check-up + removing all suspensions and make a better paint of the chassis and all the suspensions elements and little dettails (mostly cosmetic to fix)
Kind regards,
Vincent
Not only 150,000 euros...but also more 20.000to make this better.
Ok...is there anybody selling me a nice gtd for 170.000 euros DD????
no word..

A concours tube frame replica of course, worth about 45,000 euros if you're lucky... |
