Need info from anyone across the pond re emissions....First ; how does your HC and CO limit compare to my need to be max of 220ppm HC and 1.2% CO at idle and 2500 rpm then back to idle. Have any of you Britts passed your MOT emissions test w/ better or no worse limits than I need to meet with a carbed engine and if so did you need cats??? I'd love to hear from someone who passed my type limits w/ a 427FE carbed block and also a 427 and or 408 Windsor Fuel injected block.......Any details re engine cam profiles, compression heads and carb w/b a big help as well as description of cat or cats if used ect THANKS Steve

Over here we have a list of specifications dependant on engine age along the following lines (SVA Manual Section 18) (Note dates are UK style Day month year)
Effective date before 01/08/75 Visual smoke test only
01/08/75 to 31/07/86 Visual plus CO<= 4.5% HC<= 1200ppm
01/08/86 to 31/07/92 Visual plus CO<= 3.5% HC<= 1200ppm

Later than 01/08/92 Fast idle (2500 to 3000 rpm) CO <= 0.3% HC <=200ppm, Lambda between 0.97 and 1.03 Idle test (450 to 1500rpm) CO <=0.5% (Before testing ensure engine is fully up to temperature)

It then continues into a pile of test requirements if the car hat the engine was originally from had a CAT - if you need these then I would rather fax them then try to explain diagrams etc.

I believe most of the "40" engines are of the early variety and hence easyer for MOT

Cheers
Ian
ps luckily my engine was purchased new in 1990 and came with EFi
