I have to agree with Mitch on this one - the rear stripes definitely appear to be offset to the passenger side of the car. If you look at the stripe positions against the position of the rivets (assuming they are installed symetrically) and of the scoop they are offset to the passenger side. This isn't to say there is anything wrong with the car itself - heck, stripes are never perfect - they are applied by people afterall!

I also have to agree with Mitch regarding Ron's car - it looks FANTASTIC!

I really wish I could have made it to this show but the photos have confirmed what I have been thinking - I need to schedule a visit to RCR! Now I'm struggling with RCR-P vs RCR-40!

I forgot to point out the RF booth that I noticed in the pic with the Essex Wire themed car. I bet most of you missed it on first glance. I tried to isolate it below. The door seems to be closed, perhaps Robert is in there "conducting business."

I believe that silver car was the prototype rushed to complete for last year's Carlisle show.

It was great to see so many GT40s in one place. If you look at the pictures of Ron's RCR, that's me scratching my nose behind it. Ron, you have done an incredible amount of quality work in ~4 months. Soon it will be on the road. The ERA car outside belongs to a friend of mine and fellow Capital Area Cobra Club member, BlackJack. That's him in the background of the ERA spyder pics. He also has an ERA 427SC and an Excaliber Cobra. The RCR-P car was very interesting.....and the P4 car looked amazing.

I won't post aany pictures because every cars that would be of interest to this forum have been covered in great detail from every possable angle so any of mine would be redundent. But I do have some obsevations that I want to share.

1. RCR and Fran are doing great work. Having first seen his 40 at this show last year I was impressed with the improvments done since then. The glass work on a raw car is far better then anything I have seen. On john's car the white kit, you could put some plastic stripes on the car and people would think it was painted, and between Rons car and Johns you can see even more improvments. Great job RCR.

2. The P4 looks ten times better in the flesh than pictures. IMHO you must only power this car with a motor that has the look. A V12 would be great but the choices are pretty limited. Push rods are out period. A Lexus V8 with twin overhead cams could work. Light, powerfull, speed equipment available and with some cosmetics on the valve covers including red paint would work.

3. Ron and his car, what the h*ll can I say, an amazing job for 4 months. Now the fun stuff begins plumbing and powering that puppy should take no time at all for some one with Rons skills. I will say that the goodness of the RCR product made his job a lot easier than with most other kits I have seen.

4. ERA, I had some conversation with ERA about how great the Spyder looked but that IMHO price was not the only road block for them. The length of time required to get one just turned some people off. After all we have no logical reason to have these cars, just emotional ones that we try to justify, and when dealing with emotions speed of delivery is of the essance. Anyway it seems that they may be looking at some way to shorten delivery time. Put this in the unconfirmed file.

5. Ron Earp, I saw at least 4 Jensens at the show not including the intercepter
that was there. must be all of the remaing production with the exception of yours.

6. I had a chance to pound back some beers Friday night with Chuck Beck of 550 Spyder fame, and found out that he has just completed a deal in South Africa to produce his 904. With a 3.2 to 3.6 Porsche motor this little rocket would give a 40 fits.

7. Last but not least, the show was a shadow of last year. The 40 players were out and the Cobra builders were all over the place but you had very few speciality part makers, wheels motors, tanks, ect. I hope this trend turns around because it would be a shame to loose this show.

I want to thank everyone that stopped by and checked out the original GT40 MKII body and the MKI body I had at the show. Sorry the MKI body left early Sat. with it's new owner Bill Krynen of Canada. Great to put some faces with forum names. As always at the show, not enough time to talk at length with everyone. I hope I didn't crowd out Fran's Ferrari by being placed right in front of it, but that's the space they assigned me. It got a little crowded and hectic Sat. afternoon, but fun talking to many people. I've been going to the show for five years and the attendance seemed low this year.
I got to hand it to Fran for great effort. After the show, He drove to D.C to deliver John's kit, then drove all night to show up at my door at 6am Monday morning to pick up a Lola T70 Coupe body. After a cup of tea, telling some war stories, and a shower, he was off to Detroit. Man! that's a lot of driving!
Someone wanted to know if the GS Vett was chopper gun or hand lay-up; it's mostly chopper and hand lay-up in the hard to get at spots.
I got to sit in the GTM... it's just like getting in & out of my Daytona Coupe!
My favorite car this year has to be ERA"S MKII Roadster.

Thanks to everyone for the positive comments. I am VERY proud of the way the car is turning out.It helps a bunch that the kit I started with is so well developed.

The Superformance car was the car they rushed to get done for last years show.Chassis #1.

Well, after driving 500 miles in wet weather the whole way, Mark and I were glad to get out of the truck and setup ASAP. It was great to finally meet Mark Sibley in person, man does he know GT40's!

I would't rate Carlisle as the biggest or best event. I was a little dissapointed with the turnout on Friday and Sunday, there really isn't much for visitors to do, 2 hours to view everything and you're done. I think the event relies too much on it's name, just a large field with some tents for the most part.

To everyone we did meet, thank you for stopping in to speak with us!

Your car looks great! I can't believe you even aligned the spinners and had time to apply the numbers. Must have been a lot slower than last year. I'm looking forward to some close-ups.

Thanks for posting pics guys.....

RCR had a great time and I know we all really enjoyed chatting meeting new forum members....

Big thanks to Ron for bringing #14 along.....it really does look like a real GT40 from the 60's....excellent job.

We already have the RCR-P body back on the table for final finish and surfacing work, Mike and Brad are already hard at it.

The P4 is back in the CVR shop and we are deciding whether or not to make it a driving TK car.....cant decide on what drivetrain to install.......thoughts.....I know there is a member in Florida that is pretty keen on it......wink wink.
We had our 12 inch wide rears on the car with Blue Streaks and they looked great togther....

Ken and Ron at CVR.... http://www.cvrautomotive.com did a great job taking the P4 kit and turning it into what was at the show in 35 days......dont forget guys they will build any RCR product into a TK minus or a full TK for you at very reasonable cost and the P4 really shows their level of finish and commitment to excellence

You may have heard of a chap by the name of Brian Pepper, who used to prep and maintain an original GT40 for the owner (I'll try to get the chassis number). At the time, the owner also had a GTD look-a-like built to take the brunt of the road use, shows etc. In doing so, he had cast the original Halibrands and made a set for the GTD. Mark Sibley who knew Brian well had my wheels made from the original 6-pin - they do look the part.

It emphasizes how much originality is poured into the MDA product, fuel caps, hubs, ZF bell housing etc.. he really builds a convincing GT40 - at least worthy of being associated to the real deal anyway.

Just back from a work week in Chicago since the show....

I agree with needing to put a Ferrari mil in that yellow car ... I thought on the P4 for some time and after much research - the cost and complication of a V12 Ferrari overwhelmed me. I'm just not ready to bite off that big a chunk I guess.

It is interesting to see how RCR constantly improves the product, the 'white' car on display shows a number of advancements since I visited Fran's shop. Nice, really nice stuff.

The RCR P is a slot car! Low and WIDE. Quite a bit wider than the 'classic' cars and with a longer wheelbase - plenty of room for just about ANY engine configuration, love that bellcrank front suspension and detachable rear 'subframe'.

I have never been to one of these shows - overall was not too impressed not enough to see, really not enough offerings. After you finished drooling over RCR stuff and some of the other 40's things dropped off kinda quick.

I have followed that Mclaren F1 inspired Toyota powered car since they started the mold design, that car has a lot of potential, hope they can make it a real business soon.
