Your are right Ron the FF GTM is a pretty nice car. A good choice for someone not interested is GT40's. Mid engine, V8/transaxle, light, nice looking aero, good suspension design, etc.

I think the FFR GTM is nice looking. Is the factory anywhere near you, Ron? Chances are not but....

Having done the GT40 (Soon) the GTM looks like a great candidate for the next assignment. All reports on the FFR people have been positive and the GTM looks really attractive. I am not to sure on the performance though. That side of it will need a little more investigation. The only drawback is that it is only available in left hand drive at the moment. I wonder how hard it would be to do a RHD conversion??

GTM is a nice car, Factory Five is just down the road, I have been to their open house with a bunch of forum members, and these guys do a real nice job. When some of these hit the road and get tweaked, expect to see some very high performance levels. They don't look to be too big on the inside, a tight as a '40,I don't know. The Chevy guys at work just can't stand the vette donor thing though, they argue that putting that upteen thousand dollars back into the original car will give higher performance levels. I am a proponent of neither avenue to high performance. To each his own I guess.
I think the GTM is more visually pleasing than the Ultima.

Smile Re: GT-40 or GTM or Ultima GTR

Having built a FFR coupe and after seeing the GTM in person at Lime Rock Vintage Festival, I must say that the GTM looks much better in person than in pictures. It is tight but comfortable to sit in and having the GM drivetrain it doesn't try to be a GT40 want-to-be. FFR has done their homework and the product will just get better over time just like the coupe has. The GTM should have a good following.

Having said that there were two real GT40's and two ERA GT40's at Lime Rock. One of the ERA's was in full gulf colors and flares. They all were stunning and if I had my children there I would have traded them in a heart beat for any one of these cars(not really, but you get the drift). I cannot say the same for the GTM or an Ultima for that matter.

Note: one of the GT40's has front end damage from practice earier in the week.

Re: GT-40 or GTM or Ultima GTR

Does the GTM use its own design windshield, or is it taken from another car?

I can believe it. In fact, it looks to me like the GTM was designed around the windshield.

Re: GT-40 or GTM or Ultima GTR

I liked the earlier incarnations of the GTM better than their final version. I liked the early version's little "spoiler lip" on the trunk, much like our Mk I replicas have. However, I notice the rear view in the final incarnation looks very "Saleen-like", which isn't bad, it's just not as good as a 40!

Somewhere, that original GTM developmental mule must still be in existence--someone might be lucky enough to end up with a very unique GTM!

Re: FFR producing a GT replica, I heard that FFR was proceeding with a GT40 replica, but as part of an agreement with ol' "Shel" FFR agreed to not produce a GT40 in exchange for being excluded from that "copyright infringement" lawsuit C.S. was pursuing. It's just hearsay, for what it is worth, but I find it believable. C.S. has had his fun with the Cobra replica companies, could the GT40 companies be far behind? I suspect the Safir involvement would prohibit that--if only FFR had thought it through, they might be making a GT40 replica now, too.
