Dax 40

Hey folks,

somebody offered me an unfinished DAX 40 - project. DAX finished their GT40 business some years ago, so I want to know whether I can use parts (bodywork/suspension....)from other manufacturers or not.

best regards

Juergen,
one of the members on here has a dax40, recently completed. His name is Ian, and I'm sure he'll drop by your thread some time soon ;)

Cheers,

A douple of Dax's are posters on this forum, myself and Dave Bilyk from Scotland. There is another complete Dax for sale also located in Scotland through E Bay (Ebay ended at £18000 and reserve not met)

My build thread is here

http://www.gt40s.com/forum/builders-forum/17398-dax-build-up.html

I know certain body parts are interchangable but not the front and rear main body sections as the roofline on a Dax is slightly higher than normal and the front and rear sections slope more towards the bottom of windscreen / roof. Tornado nostril section fitted perfectly.

Suspension would have been supplied by DAX with the kit and does not look the same as either Tornado or GTD but simple enough in it's construction and uses Granada hubs at the front and similar at the rear.

The windscreen is a direct swap for a GTD one

After that most things can be made to fit from other suppliers e.g. lights instruments etc My perspex light covers fitted against a Tornado body.

And yes you are in a more elite group than even original Ford GT40s as only about 30 were produced

Dax cars are still in existance but have no drawings etc as they sold them all to someone who was said to be taking the project to India for cheap labour and then a light plane he was in flew into a mounain - the gigs etc were never recovered and are probably rusting away in a container in some Indian port. That said DAX were certainly approachable and are looking forward to seeing my finished car.

The Dax was not lightweight 1150kg on mine with full tanks but the bodywork is solid. (almost 1cm thick at the base of the windscreen)

If you have more specific questions ask and I shall endevour to answer and take any measurements / photos you may want.

Also if you are near London come and have a look!

cheers
Ian
