Newbie/ Wanna Bie !!

Hello everyone;
This is my first post on this forum. Just wanted to introduce myself. I don;t have a GT 40 yet but in the past I have driven almost every car out there. I have owned Porsche, NSX and my current car is a Viper SRT-10 which I absolutely love.
The reason for the post is that I am in process of looking to acquire a GT40 to keep my Viper company in the garage. I have no idea what this car drives like since it is very difficult to get Ford to test drive one of these cars. I have done a lot of reading on the car and the reviews seem quite good. I don;t have any friends that own the car so driving one prior to purchase will be quite difficult if not out of the question.

But that is not important since I know I won't be disappointed in the vehicles performace.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or comment on the cars durability. reliability, years I should be looking for or years perhaps I should avoid. I intend to buy new and here are some of the cars I am looking at ....

There are several cars available in Toronto, but the price difference between the same car of the same year is as high as $50K.

Anyway, anything you guys can throw at me to educate my search even further would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

it sounds like you are interested in the new Ford GT, which is quite a different car from a GT40.

The Ford GT community has a forum as well, The Ford GT Forum - Powered by vBulletin. We have a few members here who have Ford GTs, but we are mainly GT40 enthusiasts - you're welcome to hang out here though and you'll meet some of the most technical savvy car folks on the net. We are a friendly bunch!

As Ron, also I think u are maybe looking for a Ford GT that is a wonderful car too, but here inside we are mostly interested in the older version.
Dont think it will be possible to test drive a gt40 unless u dont have any good friend that already owns one.
In Canada there is a wonderful big comunity about the 40,and u can maybe keep in touch with theme.
I am italian and in Ferrari land is very hard to find a car (but UK is not so far away..u know)
I dunno if u have ever seen the GT40 for real..we are usually talking of "replica" vehicles,but about this special car (as well as ONLY some Cobra) u can see replicas done really better than original cars.

I hope u can see one of those mighty ones for real...and I think u will prefer the older to the new Ford gt (nothing against that dreamcar...just is a new one...and I personally prefer the old shape from 1966..).
Just remember the "typical" gt40 we are talking about weights 1000 kilos and features 350-400 Hp.
....and if u are quick and lucky u can also find real racecars (try look in recent car for sale posts) 980 kilos for 577 Hp....I think really fun and FAST to drive.

Welcome! I am lucky to own a Ford GT and a CAV GT40. Both great cars but they are very different – but I love each of them for their own special merits. The GT40 is a great car, beautifully done but really is a re-creation of 1960’s design and technology. I’m sure the fit and finish is better than the originals but it’s still pretty raw, but an absolute blast to drive. It’s my “Walter Mitty” car…I’m sort of stuck in the 60’s with many cars and bikes from that era. Maybe not the most technologically advanced stuff – but all with soul and character. Anyone can plonk down $70k for a new Porsche Cayman – but that doesn’t make you a “car guy”. You've got to feel the passion.

The GT is another story. It’s a great car. A master-piece. Created buy a group of true enthusiasts. The car has heart and soul. I have never owned a car I enjoyed more. I drive mine. It's an 06 with 7k miles on it so far. And very good value really. Expensive yes – but you get one hellava package. I have several high performance and race cars – all of which have seen time on the track and the Ford GT tops the lot. (With the exception of my 300hp 914-6GT) It’s incredible on the track – especially with Hoosier R6’s. Yes, it’s got a few shortcomings but they are easily overlooked for all the benefits. Dating a super model is fraught with difficulty too, I’m sure. The GT’s power with superb handling and torque – did I say torque - I mean real low-down stump pulling torque – are to be felt to be believed. You can drive it like a mini-van or a race car and she’ll respond exactly as asked. Cruissing at 80 mph +, you'll get 21 mpg.


Negatives to the car – zero storage, doors that open too wide, poor visibility, a fugly Mac amp/speaker and it’s quite a large car. And that’s it. There isn’t enough space here to write about all the great features and positive aspects to the car. By the way – did I say that I really like it?
If you are even mildly considering one – do it. You won’t regret it. Visit the GT Forum for a good look into ownership. They cover every aspect of the car and have an excellent knowledge base. Good bunch of guys too.

Welcome to the forum - you look like a car guy that enjoys various models and opportunities to own the best. That makes the car hobby a lot of fun! I don't know much about the Ford GT but if you want mind numbing acceleration in a light weight and nimble package, take a look at the cars you see discussed on the forum.
