P1005 Pictures

Does anyone know where there are some good pictures all round of P1005 in Filipentti livery? I would prefer to do my car like this, but aving searched the web for photos etc I have either not put in the right string to bring the info back, or have got fed up of not finding it after page 15 on Google. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Brett

Got that already James of your post the other day, thank you very much. I was hoping to find some better side shots.

Re: P1005 Pictures

can I ask what is for that grille on the metal part of the roof right after doors?(Martin first pic), never noted it before, just saw a smaller central grille on some (gulf I believe) cars.

the same grilles are not present in last James link pic, maybe removed after a refurbish?

Re: P1005 Pictures

Paolo,
I don't think the last link which I posted is P1005 but a Scudeira Filipinetti car regardless. The decals are also different.

There were quite a few original cars with those vents in the roof spider. Some were also not so long.
I was thinking of doing it to my roof but I got worried about the weather protection. And it's a one off deal and is difficult to change without chopping out plate.

Maybe you can find a side elevation of the decals in your modelling archive. ?

Re: P1005 Pictures

Exactly Paul, that grille (so is a vent for cockpit, not engine).
Looking at models, I've noted Fujimi did that part only on some models (not gulf),but they also add a plexiglass engine cover variant with a sort of gurney bubble over air filter (never seen also this..but cool)

Looking around I found this nice website about scuderia Filipinetti:

Re: P1005 Pictures

As far as i can recall the roof vents were only done on the first seven 40s. When i did 1007 bodywork several months ago they were a sod for me trying to get the masking tape to lay right for the blue, white and red striping being sprayed on. I had to push sleeving under the grills to stop a multitude of colours appearing in the channel beneath !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graham.

Re: P1005 Pictures

also the front of Paul's pic filipinetti is so different from first Martin pic.
That one seems to have all the nose done in an unique piece(from picture no ispecion panel on the nose), and with a different shape too.(seems also not wide front section).
Modern pictures IMHO shows a too nicer car.

I also wonder they didnt use any locks for the rear part at the time, and neither a side mirror.

I thought P1005 was totally destroyed in a crash? Were it's shattered remains actually restored?

The best answer to this query comes from a previous owner here :

1108 at Bonhams Goodwood in two weeks

So yes these are the same car

P1005 has been mentioned in a couple of threads on GT40s.com that can be found using the "search" function. It is well known that the original P1005 was damaged in a warehouse fire and was then dumped outside adjacent to some water, where it remained for many years. Title was eventually purchased and changed hands perhaps a few times before a new car was constructed, including a new tub. As another member said in one of the previous threads, 1005 "...is just a #..." As shown by the accompanying photo of the remains of the original P1005, it would seem unlikely that there was anything of the original car that could be "restored."

Although P1005 was entered under the Filipinetti name in the 1965 Le Mans race, I think it likely that the car was actually owned by Ford, FAV or perhaps SAI (Shelby) at that time. Something similar may be the case with P1042, which was entered as a Filipinetti and Brescia Coarse car at 1967 Le Mans. I have not seen any records that show it was actually owned by Filipinetti.

FAV factory records show that Filipinetti purchased original Mk I Race Coupes P1039 and P1040 in early 1966. P1039 was used in two events and then sold by mid-1966. P1040 was used more extensively in 1966 and 1967 and remained under Filipinetti ownership until 1973 (excluding two "sales" of the car in April 1967 to three different drivers that somehow resulted in P1040 still being owned by Filipinetti). Filipinetti also purchased original Mk I Road Coupe P1033 in 1966.

Don,

Is P1033 now owned by Tom Armstrong in Redmond, Washington? Still in Red/Filipenetti livary? Have not seen it at the Portland Historics in a few years.
