help price this car

Hi Guys

As I am a new member here I am looking for your assistance , my boss has asked me to sell his car I believe it is a GTDevelopments built 1994 as a special commision for Micheal Albereto ( the F1 Driver ) including many original parts from a 1966 GT 40. The car has only done 4500 miles , is registered in the Uk but is currently here in Switzerland . I have included the advert below ( pics there ) from someone who was holding the car and trying to sell it. Does anyone have any idea how much this car is worth , where wouéld be the best place to sell it ?? Would the car auction houses be intrested ?? I thank you all in advance for your help

regards Matt

Re: help price this car

I would need a chassis number to be sure, but I think that car was built by Pierre (UK resident French chap, nice guy as I remember him). He had got one very interesting feature that seems to have been taken off the car, if indeed it is that one. He had sill stripes that had been signed by EVERYONE of note to do with the GT40. They were very good and unique as far as I know.

You have it priced at present at about £80,000. It has an interesting history for some but that only goes so far in my books. Look at Robin Batts car at £82,500. This car would not compete with that in most areas. Also the GTD Mk2 shape is not that good a copy of the original Mk2 shape. It would need a lot of trick parts on it to be worth anything close to the money being asked in my view. I haven't seen the car for a long time so maybe it has been modified? But GTD prices do seem to be rising.....

Re: help price this car

thanks Malcom , the chap trying to sell the car has obviously priced it out the market hence my boss has asked me to look into it further. I appreciate your knowledge in this matter and if i can get any more info , i am awaiting all the papers I will certainly if ok with you ask for more help. I will have to return the car to Surrey ( Cheam ) so maybe if of intrest you could take a look. Thanks again for all your expertise Matthew

Re: help price this car

That is chassis number 28791, meaning it was manufactured in 1991 and was chassis no 287 in the big scheme if things. Definately Pierre Marie's car. Not built for Albereto as a special and I suspect not full of original parts either. In those three pictures, I saw nothing non standard GTD.

Re: help price this car

The car owned by Michele Alboreto was a GTD mk2 and he owned the car to the day of his death testing the Audi R8LM in Lausitzring. (25 aprile 2001)
The car had a British car plate and was painted in green racing.
According form the only old article done over his car several years ago (auto oggi magazine) the car was factory build and bought by Michele directly in Uk.
Was one of his absolute favorite car, and was sold by his wife few months after his death (late 2001)
Seems gone to USA to a Collector, but I dunno much more.

I am sure about the color of the GTD.The quality of the build was impressive.
Michele drove the car few times, enjoying it mostly in trackdays. He always had a too great respect for such high quality vehicles as GTDs can be.

Hope this help
