Question from a newbie to GT40's

Hi all, I am completely new to the world of GT40's, but have a question I couldn't find answered with any searches.

Has anyone looked into putting GT40 bodywork onto a Porsche Boxster S or Cayman S? A huge amount of work to be sure, but the wheelbase and width of these two cars seems identical, along with similar engine placement.

I am in love with the looks of the MKII cars, but want a daily driver (not track car) with ABS, stability control, etc. provided in a modern performance vehicle.

Am I just crazy?

I doubt it. (The answer to both your questions.)

In a GT40 the ABS and stability control are provided by the link between the drivers bum, his brain, and his reflexes.

And no you're not crazy, I can't think of a better thing to do to a P*****e!

Mind you if you want to do that, you will find heaps of help and advice from the guys on this forum. Good luck with your project if you decide to go for it.

Can't be worse than some guys contemplating putting a diesel in one.

Why ruin those wonderful Porsche parts by covering them with a body shape like a GT40, a 917, 910, or 906 body over the porsche mechanicals would probably be more likely to see that you continue to be judged as sane by your peers and give you an end product that you might recoup some of your $$$ from. There are a couple of suppliers for these designs on this Forum, you might have to sell a kidney or two to get what you need though. You will find that the major dimensions-track/wheelbase- are fairly similar on most of this stuff. If your into doing it yourself have a look @ Des's GT90 project & ask yourself, could I apply this to a set of porsche drawings, and is it something I want to do?

Basically, Andrew, the GT40 concept, spirit and soul, involves the US crudity of a thumping great V8 in the middle of the car, threatening to suck you into the intakes, while you thrash those nasty sophisticated European racers. Sort of doesn't sit well if the car is based on a sophisticated Euro.
