History of CAV stainless steel mono

To the best of my knowledge CAV licensed the spaceframe chassis/body from GTD in the 1990s. But CAV immediately improved upon it and made their own spaceframe versions up until...maybe 2002...then converted over to 100% production of the stainless version. There must have been a period when they were making both versions. GTD went through its demise and CAV evolved into Auto Futura. I'm sure there are others out there who know more including Johann Keyser in NC. Contrary to what some may think, in my opinion the CAV spaceframe was very safe and allowed for much easier crash repairs (although I own the later stainless version).

Pete, my old CAV was mono #8 and it was produced in mid-2002. At that point CAV was cranking out about 1 car a month (so I've been told) so I would guess the first monos came out around the start of 2002 or late 2001.

If you're looking for a mono CAV, you would be pretty safe in assuming that any 2002 or later CAV is a mono.
