Could you guys tell me the names of the different companies that make replica GT40s, and their websites please?

Thanks!

Well, the number of choices has decreased
recently.

ERA Replicas www.erareplicas.com
Roaring Forties -- Gordon Levy can answer
any questions on this forum.
The original website is
being redone, and hopefully
Levy Racing will have one
soon.
Tornado -- you need to contact Andy Shelton
in the UK, the US distributor site
is no longer up. Try going to the
GT40 Enthusiasts site at
www.gt40club.clara.net
CAVGT40 www.gt40cars.com --they have
exclusive rights to sell GTD
replicas in the US
GTD www.gtdsupercars.com -- outside the US
only

There is also a New Zealand company and
another Australian company. I believe Ron
has those links on his main page (this site).

Holman Moody is as authentic as you can get,
but you pay for it.

Lone Star classics, T3, and ASPP all make
kits as well, but I'd hesitate to call them
replicas, they aren't very accurate.

There was a company out of the UK called
KVA -- one of the first, but they are no
longer around. The molds were sold to
someone in the US.

Also, Ray Mallock LTD in the UK made a very
good replica based on the Tornado or KVA
frame. They too no longer make a GT40, but
they still might have a factory vehicle
lying around. I talked to them last year and
they asked if I wanted to buy it, but when it
was new in 1991, it was $180K.

HTH,

Ian

The NZ website is: http://www.gt40.co.nz/
The other Australian site is: www.GT40australia.com
Another alternative is Classic Car Developments here in NZ. It takes time but you end up with a car that is as close to authentic as possible but, because of the weak NZ dollar prices work out somewhere between RF and ERA. It's basically a turnkey car but I live close enough to be able to take part in the build.

Have you seen or driven Mr Ware's replica?
How does it differ from RF's?

Thanks

Hi Mike,

I have not seen a completed Phil Ware car in the flesh, but had the opportunity to inspect a half finished example just two weeks after I had visited the RF factory last year. In my opinion the Ware car is quite good but the quality is inferior to RF. The chassis looks lighter and less rigid and the body is not as well finished. Having said that, however, it is a lot cheaper. I know there are numerous Ware kits under construction around New Zealand and I haven't heard any serious grumblings about them and it surely must be considered by anyone on a tight budget. The fact that there is no manual available is a drawback but Phil Ware is apparently very good in responding to queries. I had decided to go the RF way myself until I discovered I could get an original monocoque built by Classic Car Developments here. I have yet to get back in touch with Robert Logan but will probably still use some RF components in my build if they can be procured without buying a full kit (their interior is particularly nice and their replica Halibrand wineglass wheels are spot on).

Cheers, Brian
