Springs - Painting

Hi Guys,

I finally took delivery of my springs & shocks today & am wondering if there is a general agreement on the best finish for the springs - powder coating or painting. If painting is the go, does anyone have a suggestion as to the best type of primer / paint to use ?

Hi Peter

The powder coating process involes heat wich is not good for the spring and may alter the rating. I would use a two pack epoxy type primer.

Chris,
I found that the best thing for the springs is a good zinc chromate primer. This stuff will seal the metal and not allow it to rust. Then all you need on top of that is just a good enaml paint. I used Krylon in the spray cans. You can also get the chromate primer in the spray can from an aircraft supply store.
Remember when putting on the paint that two thin coats work best.
