BIG BLOCKS

Hi,
can anybody shed light on the stories that the 427 GT 40's had a heat problem?
Was it a function of more power, or the specific engine design and installation?
Many thanks

Re: BIG BLOCKS

An alloy block 7 litre with modern lubricants, cooling and tyres may well be a superior beast to the original then?

Re: BIG BLOCKS

I'm assuming you are refering to a cooling problem. Yes they have had major cooling problems. The couple that I have been involved with never ran cool. Much of it is engine design, the 427SO block has very thin water jackets and the lack of a good sized radiator at the time ment they were always hot. if you got stuck in traffic you burn the engine down. Todays radiators are so moch better that they will cool a 427 without much problem, providing the engine isn't built to aggressively.
