Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Anyone got any comments about this, i don't know much about these things and am looking at various options, but don't think i would want to pay much more that the £4,500 starting bid for this ??

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Well, for a start, it's not a Mk III replica it's a MK I replica but that's a Good Thing!

The seller may think a MKIII is worth more......

If you land it for £4.5k then it's probably a reasonable deal but there's a pile of work!

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

if you read the ad its a mk3 chassis with a mk1 body.... keith why dont you like the mk3...its the closest kit to a real gt40 ...seeing as the mk3 was moulded from fords own car...its strange that so many people dont like the mk3 after all it was the first kit... personally i like the longer back but i would ..i own a mk3

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Guys,
hear what you are saying but in this particular case, the mk3 refers to the KVA chassis, not to the body shape, so it is a mk3 KVA chassied mk1 GT40 bodied replica.
I had the option of a mkIII bodied KVA when I bought my DAX, but the beautiful proportions of the mkI body won me over.

Never said I didn't like it, but being a (ex) racer, the MKI is for me, but, I do like the MKIII front with the higher wings and always wanted to see a MKIII front ended '40 fitted with a MKI rear. When I asked many years ago if anyone had ever tried this I was met with a deafening silence, so I guess this is one hybrid idea that'll stay in"what if" form.

Thanks for pointing out that, as one would expect from someone of my advancing years, I only read one word in 10 in case I tire too quickly.

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Keith,
I'm down to 1 word in 20, just luck that I happened to hit on the right one that time. Interesting MkIII MkI idea, but lets keep it quiet, wouldnt want a visit from the Inquisition now would we.

Keith,

There was someone here in the early days of the forum that did just what you've said. And my CRS addled brain is telling me it was Ronnie Spain. Could be wrong though.

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

I'm with Keith(as usual), and also looking at forum poll about gt40 variants think many others agree with him.
Nothing bad with the mk3, is a wonderful car too, but too many prefer the mk1s

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Ok

So Chris Melia had a MK3 with his own chassis

He sold it to Rob Beddington and Ron voted for a MK1 and Chris made a set of front and rear clips to fit the chassis. And both sets were sold to Rob.

Rob has sence sold the car and clips so I am sure someone has a setup that could make a MK2 front and MK1 tail!

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

And I would think that the MK3 chassis is actually a Mark C / Ctype chassis as made by KVA

Hi Guys

I post this for Lynn to help justify those senior moments.

Ronnie Spain and my good old Mk111 before I made it a MK1 and Ronnie with my signed copy of the bible.

In my opinion you will buy it cheap but that will reflect the amount of work time and money required to build it.

Chris.

Here we go, Nomex at the ready..........

I really like the MkIII shape, but then I also like the MKIV, which I would probably go for if a had to buy a 40

Just to be different........

Cheers

Re: KVA GT40 Part Built

Hi, i am building the same type, Kva Mk1 body, C type chassis, i have restored early Tvrs for thirty years, so i am not new to this, BUT, the Kva must be the hardest to build, its like a jigsaw puzzle without the picture, but i know it will all be worth it, i could not have built mine without Gt40s.com, so thanks, if anybody else is building one get in touch, regards Alan.
