I had my exhaust system white for the past twelve years. I really liked the vintage look but got tired of painting them. A local shop that does industrial chrome and nickel plating did the entire system in nickel including bead blasting for $150. We didn't polish after the bead blasting so the pipes would have a brushed look, which I think is more vintage looking. They are completely maintenance free now and I can't even scratch the nickel. The colors change a little each time its driven and everyone says they think they add to the race look.

GTD Starter Motor with Canton 15-644 Sump

I am in the final stages of my 302 rebuild for my GTD40. I have fitted a Canton 15-644 sump but when I came to mount the starter, the solenoid fouls the flare of the sump (the main body of the starter would fit with some gentle 're-profiling' of the sump).

I started to look at a more compact starter, particularly one with a solenoid that can be mounted at a different position relative to the starter mounting holes but them hit the problem of identifying the current starter!

The only text on the starter is "2005823 943 Germany 0 001 311 047 12V 73 6B 11000AA" the length from bolt faces is 195mm, diameter approx 100mm.

Any ideas what it is so that I stand a fighting chance of buying something that will work!

Plan B is to modify the position of the mounting holes on the transition plate
Plan C is to modify the mounting lugs on the starter
and
Plan D is to take the sump off again and modify that..... :-)

Well its nice to have options isn't it - of course it would be even nicer to have a starter that fits (and works!)

All the best

I wonder if anybody can help me, please. I have a CAV GT40 with a 348 Ford Boss engine with MSD ignition running on 48IDA Weber carbs and seem to have an intermittent problem which I beleive is in the ignition system. Sometimes the car will run fine (last time indicated 430 bhp on the dyno) but after putting it in the garage it will only run on about 4 cylinders! I have take a couple of the plugs out and tried to test the spark but it seems very weak and I think that throttle pumping on starting is causing some of the plugs to foul up with the weak spark unable to burn the fuel on some of the plugs
Any help or guidance much appreciated!

Hello,

I don't post often but I read every weeks all subjects that are very interested for a rookie like me in the world of GT40.

I've got a SPF GT40 MKII (GT40/P2193) with a ROUSH 427IR since 6 months and here is what happened to me yesterday:

I was driving the car and suddenly I heard a mechanical noise behind me and the engine went off. Next… impossible to restart it.

I found the cause: the distributor gear AND the camshaft gear are very damaged and need to be replaced!!!!! For an engine with 5000 miles that have been rebuild one time, it’s not normal at all !!!!!! I’m sure the builder installed a high volume oil pump that stress much more the distributor and camshaft gears than a standard oil pump.

Now I have to remove the camshaft.

Today I removed the intake manifold, drain water and remove the water pump in order to remove the distribution timing cover. The problem is that I haven’t been able to remove the damper !!!

Do you have a solution for me to remove the damper or do I need to do what I’d like to avoid: remove the engine from the car…..

If it’s the only solution, does anybody have the documentations to do that job please ? Any documentations for disassembly/reassembly of an engine/gearbox/transaxle in a SPF GT40 ?

Every suggestions or advices will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Having just had the 8 stack injection set up better we found that the throttle bodies were only opening at 35 percent, there better now at 65 percent but obviously need to be 100 percent.
The existing pedal can't really be altered so is there a suitable linkage system available and has anyone else had this problem.
I know it can be solved but asking this question here may speed things up.
Any advise welcome

hey guys. New member here. I just picked up a beat up fiberfab avenger gt 12. It is on a vw floorpan. I got it for 550 bucks and it is sitting in my shop. It doesnt have a rear axle, and is in rough shape. the body is good however, and that is what I wanted. I was hoping to acquire a v8 version, but this was a find, and I will take what I can get.

anyway, I know for certain I will not be content with a vw motor in it. I have a 10 second mustang gt, and I enjoy power. Can someone please point me in the right direction with regard to motor options? I was told kennedy engineering makes a rotary option. I cant find anything on it through google.

What other options do I have? I have a full 5 bay shop as my hobby headquarters, and as such can make ny mods that I may need to, to accommodate more horsepower.

If possible, someone please give me my options, and post links to find them.

Thanks in advance.
