Currently I drive a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX with a fully built 2.3L Stroker motor. Running mid 11's in the 1/4 mile. Looking to hopefully build an SLC in the future.

Hi all
I'm new to the site and really only have one kickoff question. I live in Cape Town, South Africa (so it has to be RHD) and as far as I know there are two leading GT40 replica manufacturers here (ie. in South Africa) CAV in Cape Town and Bailey cars in Johannesburg.
Question: Which to buy for a do-it-yourself project?
I believe Bailey are active racers, yet CAV have had a GT40 @ Le Mans in 2006 and 2007 as Pace Car for the Motor Racing Legends race.

Pricing seem similar.
Bailey tortional stiffness great but 1/2 that of CAV but think that more a case of 'double whats needed' - but it seems CAV have a nicer more rubust chassis.

This will be a road racer and speaking to a chap at Killarney this past Saturday who 'owns' a Bailey and CAV said both great with each better in a different department.

So what do you think?
Cheers

hi my names andy and im absolutely in love with the superlite coupes! i like the exotic supercars from europe and all that jazz so i started looking at the replica kit cars for ferrarri and lambos. theyre neat and all but ultimately not the car they try to be. after stumbling around on the internet i found the slc website and i want to have one to own so bad! im only 20 and by no means rich so its going to be a little while before ill be able to own one (good thing my parents taught me the values of saving my money!).

i have a 1996 v8 cougar that my dad and and i fixed up as a bonding sort of thing and i was wondering if i might be able to use that engine to maybe put in my future slc? i know how to put new parts in cars but i will admit im not a car buff by any means. i also know that building a car like this is by no means is going to happen over night.

if anyone would be nice enough to help a new guy out would be awesome!

Hi all thought i would say hello

I'm just having a look around the forum at various builds of the gt40 kit car and general info.

once i move house i will have an empty garage to keep a hobby or indeed build a kit car.

Since seeing a Mk1 on the road last week i have become obsessed looking vids on you tube and at different kits that different company's offer etc

if i indeed decided to get a kit i wont be able to go all out for the complete kit and looking to build it over the next 4/5 yrs

I'm very good with cars so the build shouldn't be to bad (hopefully)

one thing I'm not quite sure of is the Q plate as I'm wanting to build this on a budget while not compromising the quality of the build if any used parts are used i take it Q plate is the only option?

not that a Q plate would bother me but how much would a Q plate take off the valve if i wanted to sell it on later in life?

ps are any of you guys going to the silverstone classic so i can have a good look around one???

First off...I'm not one of the lucky GT-40 (or even Ford GT) owners, but I have built a fair number of cars and currently have two Fords in my stable. I'm currently working on a custom Sunbeam Tiger...but hopefully you all won't hold that against me.

Maybe once I get some of my projects completed...my wife will let me have the checkbook back and I can move up to a GT-40.

Hi all,

I've been reading some of the great build threads on here, and decided I should join both to get access to the members' knowledge and to contribute a bit of what I've learned.

I studied Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, but went on to design computers (real computers, not PC's (:-)), started my own computer peripheral company, sold it, and retired to Thailand. Back in the US, I had autocrossed a Honda Civic, then moved on to a 1965 911 which I built to a 2.7 liter Euro Carrera-spec engine and did Porsche club time trials and drivers schools for 23 years. Sadly, I sold that car in 2004, just before prices exploded. The guy who bought it sold just the seats for half what he paid me for the entire car (:-(.

After I got my machine shop built, and incidentally a house attached to it, I cast about for something to build. I drove a friend's Lamborghini Diablo, and found out I don't want to drive a supercar in Thailand-- like taxiing a 747 down the street, preceded by a marching band, majorettes and all. Eventually I discovered Formula 1000, a new SCCA racing class with wings, slicks, ground effects and 1000 cc superbike engines. That's the ticket! And the best race track in Thailand is four minutes from my machine shop/house.

So I've been designing and building a Formula 1000 race car for about the past three years. The frame is done, the body master pattern is done, and today I'm making my first body part mold.

Cheers,

I just came across this forum due to my on again off again search for my midlife treat to myself car, and coming across the SL-C from RCR.
As a bit of background I used to race karts in the late 80’s early 90’s and after running both an 80cc and 125cc shifter kart (as well as 100 and 135cc single speeds) I’ve always wanted a street car that would have the handling and exhilaration of a shifter kart. I also built a streamliner with a friend that has set several records at Bonneville and got him into the 300 mph club.
Back to my search for my car, I’ve been contemplating various Ferrari’s, but the combination of parts cost and availability, issues with many of the cars and needing to keep my budget South of $100k, I just can’t find anything that fits my criteria or runs the risk of blowing my budget if something isn’t caught in a PPI. So then there have been possible project cars. I’ve always thought a Porsche 914 with a Hayabusa bike motor and a Qauife diff would be a hot setup. Trouble is to get the performance I’d really want I’d basically have to hand build a tube chassis and suspension and would essentially just be dropping the 914 body onto a one off car, and dumping a bunch of money into the busa motor with a turbo et al. I’d come across the GTM a few years back and while it appealed on some aspects, I just don’t like the compromise of using vette parts for the suspension and honestly the lines aren’t exactly what I’m after.
Then I started looking into GT-40 kits and was considering that as option, which lead me to RCR and to the SL-C. Wow, the SL-C is exactly what I’ve wanted, and honestly is a much better design than I would have come up with myself. The lines are gorgeous, the weight is low, the suspension is top notch and no compromises from using parts from a production car.
My only dilemma at this point is we’ve spent the last couple years looking for a house with a 3 car garage, or a detached shop, or a lot big enough to build a detached shop and at a price that won’t swallow my SL-C budget. Trouble is all I find is either too big of a house (no SL-C budget), too old of a house (next 5 years will be spent remodeling, no time for SL-C) or no yard (no place to park my boat). So it may be a few years down the road, but the SL-C has my car juices flowing!

Hi all! I've been a poking around for awhile before deciding to finally join. I've been dreaming about owning a Superformance MK1 GT40 for some time but only recently entered a point in my life that should allow me to be able to afford one. I'm still about 2 or 3 years away from feeling good about spending that much money but I figured I'd begin getting involved in looking around and talking to people who have one.
2 years ago, Rick Muck was kind enough to welcome me into his garage to touch and feel a GT40 being built and from that day on, i was hooked.
Anyway, it feels good to be here and sooner or later I may post a 'wanted' ad!

hey guys. My name is Dennis, and I am from South Georgia, USA.

I just picked up a fiberfab avenger gt-12 I think.

I am pretty sure it is the gt 12 since it is on a VW floor pan. it is a two piece body. it currently has no motor, or rear axle. it is in pretty rough shape, but the body is solid.

I am wondering....can I put an engine with some decent power in this thing? or am I stuck with a vw motor? I hope not. I know the valkerie was a v8 kit.

I am looking to put at least 150 hp into this car. I am open to any suggestions. if someone happens to have access to info / plans that would help me, I would be very appreciative.

thanks,
He now lives abroad and cannot start the build, so its down to me.

Is there a book available that I could buy to give an overview of the basic construction, i.e., is the body bolted or bonded to the chassis?

We have a fibreglass body, 2 roof sections, a bonnet Mould for making the bonnet, Ford (Granada?) suspension, porsche gearbox and some quality brakes and wheels, and 2 carbon seats that apparently are very good.

I did visit the manchester show and stopped briefly at the GT40 Stand but only to try and sell what we had, a change of direction now, and I wish I had paid more attention to the cars on display.
