New IDA throttle bodies

I previously posted that commissioned a set of IDA throttle bodies from AT Power for my 302 engine

The attached is the first photo of the bodies back from the machine shop. Launch of these is at the Autosport Racing Car today. These will be available from:

Throttle Bodies | Throttle Body Assembly | AT Power

There main advantage, apart from the billet machined housings is that they have no throttle spindle in the airflow.

More photos when I’ve been to the show tomorrow.

I asked the price as they had them on the stand at the Autosport show, £1,800. The differemce from the Jenveys is that they are made so that there is no spindle in the throttle opening - just the butterfly plate so that there is less in the way of the airflow.
Cheers

Attached is a competed assembly as show on the stand. The main bodies have yet to be anodised and final assemblied, but overall I'm really pleased with the final result. The price is comparable with Jenvies, but for me they offer a technically better solution and keeping it local (they are designed & assemblied a couple of miles from where I work) is more important

Well I finally picked up my completed throttle body from the guys at Active Technologies last week & I’m really pleased with the finished item. It’s been nice to see them from a CAD model to the finished hardware.

These are now commercially available for £1600 + VAT, which includes the throttle linkage & two stainless fuel rails with -6AN end fittings. This makes them very cost comparable with Jenvies, but for a far better product.

Thats a smart looking setup, I would echo Johnnyb"s question, and also I am wondering what management system you are using? I am assuming that you would need a TPS, baro, coolant temp, O2 sensors etc. and of course an ECU.
Thats a pretty good price even here in the U.S. if most of that stuff is included.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Jon, Phil
Unfortunately the price is only for the throttle bodies, ram pipes, linkage & fuel rails. I sourced the IDA manifold from Inglese in the US (see link)

Inglese: Intake Manifold, 289-302W, IDA, Factory Thermostat Type

For the ECU, I'll probably go with another local company Specialist Components. They specialise in converting the Rover A-series engine to take the BMW K-series bike heads & other Mini parts, but also have a generic controller with good functionality.

Specialist Components - Typhoon ECU

The Specialist Component Typhoon ECU offers greater functionality and faster performance at a lower price point. It’s a very modern design, with 100% surface mount electronics and a very fast 32 bit microprocessor. Spark and fuel are controlled by a custom 'time processor engine' which guarantees extremely accurate spark timing even when the engine is accelerating rapidly.

The communications with the PC is via CAN bus and USB, not old fashioned RS232 serial ports and the enclosure is sealed to IP65, which makes it suitable for engine bay mounting. The PC tuning software is flexible and powerful, showing numerical data, 2D and 3D map representations and context sensitive real time data on the same screen.

Features include CAN communications to data loggers and dashboards, launch control, 32 x 32 variable breakpoint maps and control for most variable valve timing systems including the BMW VANOS and Honda iVTEC.

Ultimately it comes down to performance vs price and I believe that Typhoon is currently the best in the market, as well as being local to me.

Andy
