I offered to loan James my ZF oil pump to take some measurements, but when I went to remove it I discovered that after sitting untouched for 8 years it had seized in the transaxle. Being the thoughtful craftsman I am, I gave it a careful whack with a lead hammer and winced as it popped out leaving the upper half of the barrel still in the ZF. It had fractured in two at the retaining screw hole.
Feeling the fool, I sent the broken pump off to James in the UK with an explanation of why it was not quite intact. Long story short, James crafted a replacement upper pump body that is nearly indistinguishable from the original, reassembled the pump and returned the lot to me, at no charge. It was just his way- probably the Scotsman in him.
So, if any of you have reason to deal with James McCudden or his company, you'll be working with a man of considerable skill, decency, and integrity. I couldn't give him any higher praise.
