Could you post a pic of this gearbox, as well as who did the build on it please.

Does this have the OEM LSD in it, or was it upgraded?

Thanks for the information.

Red, $7K is not that far off ZF territory. No doubt the G50 is a wonderful box but for that kind of money I'll pay the extra for the ZF and have an original-type box. I suspect you'll find lots of folks interested in your box more at the $5K level.

Check out the starter mounting "nose cone" in the first and third photos.

Quite a bit of "post Porsche" welding?????

I'd want to be ABSOLUTELY certain there aren't any starter alignment issues!

Looks to be possibly some welding done in the area of the clutch slave cylinder mounting surface in pic 2..

Curious what things look like inside the bellhousing. Many times the bosses for the clutch fork pin are broken or cracked in a wreck (or by installation or removal errors)..

The case was repaired long ago-in fact before I acquired it. It was used for some time after that. I have seen many welded cases. The amount of work in his trans is significent to reinforce it and it shows . Those that think they could duplicate for anywhere near this price are dreaming - the cost of the rebuild ( not used since done ) was a very large percentage of the asking price .This trans is not a run of the mill G50-- if you set out to build one capable of handling GT40 type big HP engine you would be doing the sort of things done to this trans already.
After rebuild it has not been installed in a car- so is as new. It was done with the intention of using ourselves and then kept as a spare .
While I appreciate your opinions I think you are very wrong . Interestingly enough-- I sold a specialised trans for twice-- yes twice the price I advertised on US forum and was told very similar things that I just read here(I sold about a year later after I became aware of replacement cost). The new owner on the other side of the world I now consider a friend as we continue to communicate about a lot of topics but particularly about "our" transmission.

No one is saying that there is anything "wrong" with your transaxle. There are some opinions on price and some questions and observations though.
On the welding - you have made no statement about that work either before or after you posted the pictures and some (including myself) made observations.

In addition - When you say "Big HP" - Are you aware that there are some that are building in excess of 700 BHP with their engines? There are a couple of Porsche transaxles that will handle that sort of power that I am aware of. I was not aware that the G50/03 could be made one of those transaxles.

I wish you the best in your sale.

Hi Red9, my data points may be way off so please don't be offended. In the last year I bought a 4-spd 930 box in very good condition for $2,200 and an early G50 box in similarly good condition for $3,000 using ebay/craigslist. I realize the basic G50 is used and not built up internally so obviously you have a much better box, justifying a higher price.

I posted here the sale notice at the suggestion of a couple of people . I did not post to have a debate . I have tried to say it as politely as possible-- I have no idea of what expertise some of you have here. FWIW-- I am very familiar with virtually all the Porsche trans being used in GT40's. While this was built for a different high torque/HP situation it is also very suitable in that environment. It is virtually unique compared to any ordinary G50. The sort of issues that may make a G50 marginal are addressed in this box and the flexing and stretching minimised. All that leads me to cost-- G 50's are costing a lot more than 12 months ago - this is a completely refurbished, reengineered box and the price has nothing to do with what you can buy used/unkown quality box. From the number of questions I have had from GT40 owners is that cost is an issue in getting a stong enough trans to do the job .
I love your 700 HP comment - any car with a genuine 700 HP would be idiotic if they did not address the strength of every drive train component fwiw this trans would have a better chance than most to handle it-- so how many cars have a real 700HP? I would have to say if a prospective purchaser had a genuine 700 I would be very carefull in making sure they understood what other option are out there. I am very sceptical on how many genuine 700 HP cars are around- and please do not bother getting in debating mode-- I simply do not believe dyno numbers-they may make somone parting with their money happy and it is all ok if the relevence of that number is never put to the test.
Incidentally-- the extra work also makes for a more precise shift -so there is and every use benefit--plus the durability.

Red, the very nature of a forum is (good natured) debate. The sharing of ideas and thereby increasing the overal knowledge base is central to the endeavor.

Please ignore my comments above if they are unwelcome.

The market will ultimately determine the value of your transaxle. Good luck with the sale.

I agree about forum! Comment not unwelcome so please read nothing but the words in responses. You are right--the market will set the price-as will the experiences of those that get the type of upgrades done here.
I am embaressed that all this has kept bumping the thread.

Ah, no worries. Undoubtedly somebody will come along who needs a really beefy transaxle and will get interested. There's certainly more than one or two guys who have built 500hp+ GT40s on this site!

SOLD,SOLD ,SOLD--- due to the change of value in the currency--for far more than the asking price here.

I just bought a 1987 930 LSD box with 70K miles for $2500 and could have bought a non LSD 930 for $1800 and a non LSD G50/01 for $2500. These are real world prices that people actually would sell these trannys for. There is a G50/50 with LSD and low miles for sale right now for 7K and it is much stronger than the G50/0x boxes with no special work done. Things are only worth what people will pay for them. Just my .02
Steve
