Hang in there Pete. Having been through that same process recently, all I can say is that it makes it oh so much sweeter when it finally gets the nod.

Re: GT40 Australia #48

G'Day Pete

I have just been rego'd in Queensland with an RF GT40 and can understand the frustration in the
waiting, waiting, waiting to be rego'd.

My engineer told me after a 4 month wait, that the two people in Qld Transport that were
able to sign off on ICV, were both on stress leave. They eventually came good and signed
me off. (or on) depending on which way you look at it.

Just hope that my signing did not return them to -----?

Hope to meet you some day and exchange our experiences.

Wayne

Re: GT40 Australia #48

Pete, while you are WAITING, WAITING, WAITING, there must be someone (eg PR) who has some "trade plates" that you can stick on for testing. A mechanic mate of mine helped me out with rebuilding the brakes, & we put quite a few test kms on the car using his trade plates - all totally legit, log book filled out, etc. This was well worth the effort as we managed to fully de-bug the brakes (and also had some preliminary driving fun).

Come to think of it, when Holden or Ford, etc produce a new car, they get to do hundreds of thousands of kms of testing - admittedly some of it is on their own proving tracks, but a hell of a lot is done on public roads. How do they do this - trade plates, I suspect. There is no way that their new cars have passed all the ADR tests at that stage (or even later - there were 2 Monaros at the RTA awaiting final crash-tests when I did my emissions testing - & the Monaros had already been on the market for a couple of months !).

So, if these bureacratic morons want us ICV builders to come up with cars that pretty-much meet the same standards as the big guys, they should not have any problem with issuing trade plates to the "manufacturers" so that they can do a reasonable amount of testing prior to presentation for final approval !!

Asking for trouble / stirring the pot ? - yeah, I suppose so (logic & bureaucracy are 2 words which never appear in the same sentence (unless one of them is preceded by "lack of")) !!

Put the bite on PR or someone for trade plates for a couple of days a week - there is no way the morons could argue about that level of totally legitimate testing !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Good idea Peter, I will catch up with PR at the Historic meeting at QR tomorrow. Don't be too hard on the very nice people at QLD transport, I think they are terrific people
and if any of them are reading this I am sure the same very very nice people will give my approval TOP priority!!
Wayne, did you say four Months? Aaaaaaaaaaargh Now I think I need stress leave.

Re: GT40 Australia #48

Hello Pete

With you having a contact in Qld Transport and siting on the fence waiting waiting I sincerely hope you are not on the wait that I endured. I can say that I pushed every known button but had to endure the wait. Following the approval from Qld Transport, that is not the final to having that sticker on your windscreen.

You will need a Qld Transport Pit Inspection.

The closest is Woodridge which is approx 8 weeks before they can inspect and ICV.

My paperwork went from Qld Transport to the Woodridge Depot before I found out that The Darra Depot was only 4 weeks behind an applicaton that they could proceed with. I asked for the transfer to Darra and the Inspection went ahead. The Guys at Darra were thorough and gave me a clean bill of health.

From there, with a mountain of paperwork I approached the Mt Gravatt Transport Depot to finalise the procedure and obtain my rego. Being in that department for over one hour they eventually advised me that they would not sign off until I had a road worthy certificate from a Private Authorised Company.

I obtained that Road Worthy Cert and with that the Mt Gravatt depot finalised the Rego.

Pete-- Please be patient as the results are rewarding.

Just to drive the car around our great city and have people point there fingers as recogition of a great looking car is a real Buzz or should I update and say "COOL"

Pete your deserved time will come!!!

Re: GT40 Australia #48

Thanks Wayne, I have been told by Qld Transport that the papers have been approved and my letter was being typed.
That was a week ago. And no sign of letter yet. Slow typing pool?

Re: GT40 Australia #48

In my experience you can't believe a word they say. On the last Cobra we were told numerous lies by QLD Transport - approval has been sent( they then contacted us for further info), they also indicated in writing that they would not incorporate new rule changes on an already submitted application...wrong, they just kept raising the bar. And just wait for pit inspection when they don't have your paperwork.

Just hopeless...Rant over.

Did you guys know that 5+ years ago, things moved very quickly and all process was very easy. Ahh, the good old days.

Good luck Pete, I've got all my fingers and toes crossed.

Re: GT40 Australia #48

G,day Pete
My letter of approval from the Qld Transport was sent to my Engineer who then informed me my approval was accepted.
Not sure but we may have had the same Engineer,if so it is a matter of keeping in touch with him.
The engineer will them present you with the Qld Modification plate and it all go's from there.
Chin up

Re: GT40 Australia #48

Congratulations Pete - that is the hard part done, the rest is easier from a technical point of view (but more waiting again). Just think of the savings you'll make at the local chemist - no more vallium scrips on a weekly basis !!!

The real "showstopper" pressure is now off - just a low to medium level of frustration for a little while !

While you are waiting for the final nod, I trust that you & Di are packing for your first trip in the '40 - you pack the credit card, she packs a satin nightie !!!

Bloody well done mate !

Kind Regards,

Peter D.

Thanks everyone, a sense of relief, but I wont crack open the champers until the number plates are in place. Peter D,
you are right about the credit card . I'm not so sure about the satin number.
