My partner was with me and it's the first time she has seen your car completed, she says "wow, that's a great looking GT40, will ours look as good as that.". I replied "hmm, I hope so".
What a bugger with handbrake adjustment. So does that mean it's going back today.
Good Luck. |

Hopefully Rego today. |

| Re: GT40 Australia #48 Thought the saga was over, but on the way to have the world's quietest GT40 registered we detected a noise in the gearbox which sounds like crown wheel and pinion. So gearbox has been pulled and is at the doctor's.
A minor delay but early fix is better than a handful of gears with no teeth. The trip to the registry office was a good test for the car, raining and the freeway turned into a parking lot. Water Temp crept up to 90c and soon as the car got moving again back down it went to 80c. |

Feel like you've just given birth??
Get that gearbox fixed, so you can get on the road and
enjoy the new "baby"!
While looking at your new plate sitting in front of your radiator, I had a thought. How about drilling a pattern of 1/8" "pinholes" in it, to increase airflow? The plate would still be easily readable, but be more of a screen, than a solid "air dam".

Better being safe than sorry and stuck on the side of the road. Will be back together and on the road in no time.
Catch up with you at the factory BBQ on Saturday...if you are there. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: GT40 Australia #48 Congratulations Pete - to have the plates (very cool ones at that) is all that really matters !
Your trip to the registry office in a downpour was a good omen - the heavens opened for my final tests & all went ok too !
Once you have the plates, those little details like noisy g'boxes are mere details - to be addressed at your discretion, not at the end of some bureacrat's gun-barrel !
Fun times coming up !
Kind Regards,
Peter D. |

Well done Pete, that is a great effort. I'll have a scotch on you and your good fortune (the registration - not the gearbox... heck I'll have another drink to wish you well on that too! )
Will you be bringing it down to the Oz F1-GP 2006??
By-the-way, a spring loaded lever on that front plate will see it lie flat at moderate speeds and still swing up into position when you stop at lights.....

| Re: GT40 Australia #48 Thanks everyone for your support and best wishes. One of the great things about this forum is the number of "good guys" involved all over the world who are willing to share their knowledge and experience.
The build experience has been terrific for me, increasing my knowledge, testing my patience and introducing me to a whole new raft of friends.
I would like to thank Peter Ransom, Gary, and the rest of the terrific group at GT40 Australia (DRB) the quality of your work is unsurpassed. Thank you guys.
Now as soon as I get that F***N gearbox back I'll let you know what it is like to drive. |

| Re: GT40 Australia #48 You are right Peter, frustration is not a strong enough word.
We found a ring and pinion in the U.S. which is on its way.
In the meantime I am all dressed up with nowhere to go. |

| Re: GT40 Australia #48 Just heard from Peter R that bits had arrived and we should
have the gearbox back by the end of the week. The wait has been put to good use as it has given the boys time to fit vacuum brake assist, which will make Di feel more comfortable driving it. |

Rep Power: 21 | Re: GT40 Australia #48 Pete - Di driving it ? Are you losing the plot ? You know about her family's racing pedigree, so you know what she is going to do once she's out of your sight !!!!
(Sorry Di, but please let the boy play with the toy - just for a little while - then you can tell us all what its really like to give it some stick) !!
