Dutton,
Surgeon Pete…..That’s where the health department would finally draw the line.
Those who know me well would never let me too close to them with a knife in hand.
I wouldn’t mind giving that silicone enhanced body work a go though. That would probably be enjoyable.
By the way I like your signature. Spot on!!

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 Peter - Fantastic progress!!!!
I like the battery mounting and the Firebottle. However - have you considered a heat shield to go between the firebottle and the headers? Pressure rise in the bottle may become a problem otherwise...

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 I think I should add that I have worked with and designed many racing cars, and it is a very strong rule of thumb that the Fire tank never goes in the engine bay or around heat....It is almost always in the passenger compartment or a compartment away from heat.
That mounting position is asking for trouble IMPO.

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 Thanks for input gents.
I had thought about the heat issue but the only time that I have had chance to check the operating conditions has been on a 100k highway run so there was not any major heat buildup. Extreme operating conditions like track or dyno work may be a different story though. I will have to keep an eye on that. The radiated heat from the headers is actually quite good as the ceramic coating works very well.
Any idea on a safe operating temperature of these units??

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 A couple questions, Peter:
1) What brand and model of mufflers are those? They look nice and will certainly be quieter than the single hollow resonator I have as my "muffler."
2) How did she do on the dyno?
Great thread and a beautiful RF.

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 G'day Mark,
The mufflers and headers are a custom made item by Custom Exhaust Specialists here in Queensland. They are basically a hollow unit except for the integrated catalytic converter and they sound really good. They are not quiet enough to pass the local ADR requirements so I had to install a set of Supertrapps to get me through testing. The Supertrapps are somewhat ugly though so I am in the process of sorting out my own baffles as in the attached photo. When they have run for awhile and turned black you should hardly notice them. Still a bit of work to do to get them right.
No real results from the dyno as yet. It only had the one session which was basically to ensure that all worked as intended. Kept a close eye on temperatures etc. including the transmission, cv's and so on. When I get a few miles under the belt I will give it a real go!! At present it is pretty much just a standard GT40 AL Head crate motor that they quote at 345HP. We will see!!

The quality of your build continues to impress. Painting only the top portion of the Weslake Guerny valve covers is a great idea: You keep the natural aluminum look yet highlight the fins and lettering. Good idea!

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 Hi Stuart.
Not another RF this time.
I am a sucker for punishment so it will be a mono this time around. It will be a hell of a lot more work but enjoyable none the less.
Stay tuned, it's almost done.

| Re: Roaring Forties GT40 #083 The trouble with your car is that it's so beautiful in a mechanical sense that you will want to keep it in the lounge as a coffee table, and look at it, rather than drive it and get it messy. Outstanding attention to detail. You aren't a chartered accountant are you?
We are eagerly awaiting pictures of the first drive with the completed car accelerating hard, very hard.
