Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Yahoo..... finally working on the 40 again. The Stang is done and gone. Family trip to Florida behind me. My weekends will be mine for a while...well accept for when the boss says they aren't...
Worked three projects this weekend. Replaced the coolant catch can with a lower profile piece, due to an interference issue when the rear cover was closed. Made up some screens for the side scoops. Started on the front dzus fasteners. Finished to two at the windshield base.

Tom, more than welcome. It was fun meeting you guys.

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Rob - Looking good and I know you must have been chomping at the bit to get back to work on it..

I'm using the same coolant reservoir as you too!

Curious where you sourced the Big-Wing Dzus fasteners... I was just about to start making some (a rather tedious task)...

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Rob-
Great progress.

Now for a question
I am also doing the two Dzus fasteners in the same position. But I noticed iin your photo the brackets you have are really tiny. Too small for the springs. What are you using to catch the fastener?

Thanks
Bill

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Randy, the dzus wings are from Sandy. He had a bunch laser cut a while back. Don't know if he still has any....??? I then welded them to standard slot head fasteners.

Bill, I will post a closer pic for you tonight. I bent the spring tab mount around 180º, then fab'd a riser base. The pic will be worth a thousand words, so I'll stop with that.

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Didn't get too much done this weekend, with Mother's day today and Julie was in a concert yesterday, but thought I'd share my small progress I did make...

Finished up the front Dzus fasteners....

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Finished up the rear hinges today by installing hydraulic lift arms. Opening and closing is much easier, and holds the clip up/open nicely. Pleased with outcome....

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Rob - Nice work as usual...

It appears that you shortened the megaphones and inlets on the mufflers - right?

What springs did you use and where do you find them? I'm planning a similar mount for mine and just shortened the inlets almost 4" and straightened them out (they were canted about 15 degrees)..

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Thanks Randy..

Yes, I did make them shorter. The orig length was no issue in the orig location, but going shorter was necessary to clear the body because I raised them a bit.

The springs were from McMaster (pn 9065K435).

Re: Rob's RCR40 Build

Thanks for the McMaster # Rob... I had to raise my exhaust too since I had no clearance on the longer (but modified) G50/03 Trans..

Hi Rob, Very nicely done. Where did you source these from or did you fab them yourself ?

Rob:

I like the "DADS CAR SHOP" sign. That means "don't touch" around here.

Is the exhaust bracket fabricated from aluminum? Looks very good and authentic.

The pics clearly demonstrate your excellent, even panel seams.
