Hi all
Time to post a few more update photos.
Have finally fitted the front clip gas struts which help on opening the front as well as limiting the opening and stop the clip hitting the ground when fully open.
I did not like the doors hitting the 'eyebrows' on the roof and damaging the paintwork so I made up out of stainless some scuff mouldings which are fitted to the leading edge of the doors which will protect the paintwork.
I also made a scuff plate out of stainless for the side of the body that the front clip contacts as it is opened and closed so it does not damage the paintwork and the top of the plate is angled inwards to form a guide to locate the front clip as it is lowered down into place.
Fantastic looking build Dimi. Nice detail work.
I like the eye brow "rub" plates at the top edeges of the doors. I don't recall seeing that on another car. Is this your own creation? Excellent idea.
Hi Randy & Rob
Given the 40 is so low I wanted to make sure others could see when brakes are applied so the third brake light is a NARVA unit that normally is fitted in the edge of a rear spoiler.
I made the door scuff plates from thin stainless sheet to protect the paintwork on the doors.
When the doors are closed they are hidden under the 'eyebrows'.
Dimi
Hi all
Finally decided on how to do the heat shield for the rear clip so that I could still work on the motor and tranny easily and not have to remove the heat shield.
I also didn't want to just glue something on to the clip so I fibreglassed some standoffs inside the clip and made the heat shield to surround the exhaust but leave a 50 mm gap for airflow and cooling.
Are you up and registered yet? A friend of mine saw a black GT40 a fews weeks back coming up Flat Rock drive at Northbridge, I thought it might be you.
Please give us all an update on your project
