Re: GT90 from ground up

Please post. I am going to be starting my own car from scratch and this is a method of making mold plugs that I hadn't thought of. I'd really love to see the progress and read all the gritty details.

Ok
Will do, no intentions of stopping posting, I didn't want to bore you with stuff you didn't want to see.
Thanks again for the support.

Cleanup done today and sticky stuff all set to start tomorrow.
I will try to post a pic of the "bonnet" radiator cover which is to be first cab off the rank.
I go interstate for a week this Friday so further updates will have to wait till I return.

Re: GT90 from ground up

Sticky stuff under way
Did a test piece and then the bonnet today.
It uses a fair bit more resin than I expected, but understandable as it is wetting and flowing around mesh to a degree.
Resin is a much nicer product to work with than bog due to the longer working time to cure.
It was still too tacky to trim when I took the pics, should be well and truly cured by the time I get back.

Bill
Reminder appreciated
Yes a week off would be nice.....................................
SLAP
Back to reality, it was for work.
Bonnet cleaned up.
Skinned doors as well as septum and all cleaned up and rough sanded to get rid of jaggies.
Sections look and feel different now they have put on some shape and weight.
Decided I will cut in the lower front indicator lights before I skin the front guards.
rear guards next

Re: GT90 from ground up

Hi Des,

I really like this project. I'm facinated with the level of detail you have achieved with the contours of the car.

How did you make such accurate cross sections of a car's body (when forming the 'skeleton')? Genius.

Good luck with the build.

Re: GT90 from ground up

Troy
Lots of sample points, lots of patience.
6 weeks were invested in measurements and drawings before I cut any wood.

Some more pics
Rear deck and rear face skinned
tail lights and under door triangles done as well as top of main arch.
On to the front guards, sides of main arch will be skinned at same time to save mixing small quantities of resin.

Des - You are the man for doing this project... I would LOVE to build one of these and wonder what the chances would be of the resultant body fitting on an existing RCR Chassis... I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed this thread and your determination...

Thank you...

Re: GT90 from ground up

Randy
Sorry the 'resultant body' is not going to fit a GT40 chassis, for a start the 90 is much wider than a 40.
My intention is to supply body-chassis units with the doors fitted and the glass module installed.

kenshiro8
yes I think it looks better too.... it's in my workshop.

Keith1
yes it does, it's amazing how the appearance and stance has changed with the skin
