Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Sorry, I started my build log in the wrong forum. Here is the latest info transferred...

The chassis I refer to was Rob Logan's own rcae project, I believe either #12 or #13. This is the car I've purchased, and would like to find out some more details from you guys on the forum.

The New Roaring Forties guys have been excellent to deal with, and would highly recommend their services to anyone who'll listen. It is refreshing to find an industry where everyone you meet is so co-operative and helpful.

Also, for any of thye guys in Perth, it looks like I'll be going over to pick up the car personally, so if you need anything from the RF factory, or indeed Melbourne, let me know and we'll see if I can fit it in!

Troy.

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Let me just add, it is I who would recommend the new RF guys to anyone who'll listen.

The wording looks a bit suspect, I missed out the word "I" in that quote. Sorry!

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Troy,
I agree, I have spoken to Owen and Paul at RF on a number of occasions, as I am looking at buying and building a GT40 and they are more than willing to help and advise.
I believe they are more than happy to supply parts to people that have other makes of GT40's.

Good one RF.

Neil

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Neil
Yes I have to agree with your comments about the guys at RF.

I spoke to Paul at RF about ordering a laminated glass rear window for the rear clip and he had no problem with supplying one for my car even though it was a DRB and not an RF.

The window arrived yesterday and is now fitted into my car as I prefer the glass window to the plastic one as supplied with the DRB.

I was impressed with the service from Paul at RF.

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Welcome Troy, I wondered what ever happened to RL's racecar.
Last time I was down that way (few years ago now) I took a few pics of it.

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Thanks again for the extra pics.

I bought it and only managed to get two photos myself!

Plan is to register it, I muck about with a 5.2ltr Rover engined Triumph TR7 on the track.

I look forward to taking it down to Coles to do the shopping (if my shopping list was a packet of chewies and a chocky bar!)

Looks nice, Good luck with your project.
I was wondering which steer rack is mounted in that chassis?
Cheers

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hello Phil

That is a good question and one that deserves careful consideration... To be honest, I don't actually know! I have only just purchased the car and it was already installed. I will check it out and post here.

Where in NJ are you? I just got back from 3 weeks there as my company's HQ is in Mapel Shade. Now that is a long flight. 5 hours to Singapore, then 19 hours non-stop over the north pole into Newark. iPod copped a belting!

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Troy and Phil,

The rack is out of a local Mk2 Escort (per UK versions)

The reason for choosing this was the availability of a quick ratio version (2.25 turns lock to lock)

I have some more pics I'll send you as the car sat at old RF during the suspension development.

And guys, thanks for the nice comments about new RF, makes it all worthwhile.

Regards Paul B

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Troy,
Regarding the seats, in the RF GT40'
Did they come with the car?
Do you know what make?
How wide are they?

I have a few photos of your future Chassis, if it was the to be race GT40 at RF.
Only problem the photos are high res.

Thanks,
Neil

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Niel,

The seats are COBRA brand, however I'm not sure of the particular model. I will have to check it out and let you know. They were part of the deal. As for the pics, would love to see them. My pics are all hi res too, but I just googled "photo resize" and clicked the first result, I think it is www.shrinkpictures.com. They take the pic, copy and then resize it on the website, then save it back onto your PC. Very quick.

This way, you don't have to download any software to do it.

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

While I wait for my crsate to arrive, I thought I'd re-visit some comments on another thread.

Here is a pic of the TR7 V8 we throw around on the track. Super fun, short wheelbase toy that has been known to get all croosed up and back into the massive haulpac tyres at the entrance to Bag-a-Lego raceway here in Perth. (Will have to find a way to post that video.

Re: Troy's RF "Race" Chassis

Hi Troy
Your probably thinking Ross that 'a' hole that won't respond to me. Sorry for that but as you say I think I saw you come on the forum as I was getting off. To fill you in, I live 20 minutes from Dromana (old RF factory) but the construction of your car took place without any contact with me. That is except for a night when I organized a visit for the Lotus club. I had done a lot of work to the rear suspension and when I denied Robert Logan the detail, he ordered me off the premises. So I knew about the car but only saw it occasionally. Actually the project never seemed to make any headway and I could never understand why a manufacturer would build a car to race anyway. If you would like me to, I could make some suggestions on what I think you should do to finish the car but importantly you must decide now road or race car.

Ross
