GT40 Mk1

Hi all

Many years ago when I was about 12 years old I started to build a sports car, much like a M8 but with Hillman imp power, swing axels and space frame, in the school holidays, I never finished it

But the dream of building a super car resurfaced about 6 years ago and after a year of convincing the wife it was a good thing, the folowing is the progress

More photo to come

That looks like it has a fair bit more power than the earlier Hillman Imp drivetrain......

Beautiful work John.

Exceptional work. Very impressive.

Seems New Zealand is blessed with some really talented people - far more than the population of the island would suggest based on the posts on this site. What's the secret??

Keep the posts coming!

Re: GT40 Mk1

A few more photos for interest

Been looking at Vintage wheels 15" BRM pin drive, can anybody report as to there quility? I have had one bad report, but still interested

in reply to Womab, if I didnt need the cash to finish the project I would leave it on the wall as a peice of art and talking point as well, but room is also a problem

I must say I have made friends all round the globe while building the 40 as we have swapped info and parts, its great

Re: GT40 Mk1

John,

Your work is most impressive, the photos don't do it justice! I look forward to seeing more of your progress next time I'm down your way.

WRT Vintage pin drives, contact Lim for his experiences. We have had issues with Vintage and PSE wheels.

Maybe we are just too fussy and have unrealistic expectations of factory tolerances? Maybe Vintage and PSE are no better or no worse than the others?

How many people actually have the inclination and the equipment to accurately check the machining before fitting their wheels? Most people I suspect just put them on, and if they fit, they fit! Lim wound up remachining all our wheels to obtain tolerances that we found acceptable.

I've got a set on the Lola and they seem awesome. Better quality than the ones I had on the very old RF kit I had, and those were pretty decent. I'll have a set for sale at some point (can't use knock ons for racing) but probably not in time to help you out in any way unfortunately. I'd not hesitate to use them.
