| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars We have an original coolant expansion tank to copy, (rather overpressurised and useless).
The pressure caps are the large commercial type and those stamped aluminium necks are obsolete so I had to make billet alloy necks to suit.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Three pairs of original heads, all C6FE's.
One pair are stamped by Mondello and another by Valley Head Services.
The corrosion is but a flash rust after I gave them a bit of a steam clean last year.
Jac Mac gave me a full indent of the correct Fomoco parts for these and now they are off for complete restoration and rebuilding with new parts.
These rare heads are necessary for historic racing.

Fran Kress had a nice repro of the tanks available. He may still have some.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars I did know about Fran's excellent work. Here's one I made a few years ago with the same cap and a square back.

A question (not about the car) about "ALI",,, is this "Ali" as in Aluminum or Ali as in Ali Baba?! just curious about my "relatives" being involved in the Auto industry |

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Greetings O' Great One,
"Ali" in this thread is my buddy, although his real name could be Ali Baba as he has introduced me to quite a few thieves in the past.
I would not buy a carpet from him either.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Ali's assembling his car for racing and I'm doing the road car.
There were two versions of the top panel to the scuttle. (part #2621)
The race version had the screen wash recess and the road version had the heater vent mounting plate with the iris vent.
Both of these panels are the same size and interchangeable. Here are the two different parts. Both originals.
I will also fit butterflies to control the air flow to the cockpit.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars I received a message asking about the rear end.
Here are a couple of shots of the first piece Mirage made for this tub and recent progress.
The complete monocoque was reverse engineered by Ray and Steve prior to cutting and bending sheet. The jigs are all co-ordinated to accurate set-screw holes in the flat table.
The tub is completely assembled on the steel table and every part is jig fitted ensuring highly accurate and repetative work. Tolerances over the tub length are +/- 0.5mm
A mock-up of the rear cradle is fitted to the rear post jig.
Incidentally, the darker cross brace on the bulkhead is another original piece from the 60's. Several original parts were used in conjunction with the GAs and surveys from original cars to finalise this design.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Thanks,
Some more shots taken at the weekend.
The new alloy pedal box and those old surge tanks fit perfectly. We have new replacement tanks on the go presently.
I have got to get the pedal boxes machined before I start on the gear shift assemblies this weekend.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Great work, the very best. I’m interested in the area where the lower rear control arm goes forward into the triangular tube. Do you have any pictures of the area before the outside sheet metal was installed, maybe even before the triangular tubing went in? What does the forward pivot structure look like and how far forward does the triangular tube go. Again great work and thanks for sharing.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Richard,
I have got some pictures of these areas on file somewhere and will post them for you as soon as I find them.
The lower radius arm tunnel does not reach very far into the side box.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Progress on my tub today.
Also some shots of the tooling and jigs which took Ray and Steve eighteen months of long days in preparation to build the first batch of tubs.

| Re: MIRAGE AUTOMOTIVE - Jimmymac & Alistair's Cars Here are some more shots of the Mirage table and fabrication jigs.
All parts were AutoCad clash checked with the chassis design and cut at the same design revision and tolerances with the platework.
Permission given by Mirage.
