Roaring Forties 66

Well after 12 long years, I've finally finished and registered the 40 a few weeks ago. I know I'm doing things backwards, but I'll start a build thread, call it therapy.....

Here's some pics from last week.

Beautiful, your panel fitment is impeccable! Very nicely done Clayton.

Would you be willing to post more pictures of the interior, motor and front etc... Its motivation for me and my RF build!

Thanks Guys
Yes it's been a while, but apparently all good things come to those who wait.......

I did spend a lot of time with the body, adding glass to the edges to trim back etc. I'll put up the detail as I go.
Here's a few more pics

Did the mirrors come with the car? Or did you find them yourself. I need mirrors mine suck I can't see anything
No I didn't get the mirrors with the kit, they are RX7 series 1 electric.
Only been driving for a few weeks and the view is a little limited as well, but I like the shape.

July 2002 I arrived home to find a truck parked in my driveway full of goodies.
They had come near on 3800km from Melbourne and was boiling the billie behind the trailer for a cuppa

In the mean time they had started to build my car in the carport
That was one happy day

My daughter, then 4 was pretty excited about what was happening until I made her climb under the body work to pose in the cabin. Bless her heart....

That arvo I couldn't help but to reassemble the body onto the chassis and survey all the other parts.

and what does she think of it now Clayton?

well done clayton .looks great ,it has been a long time but well worth it .did you have any licencing issues because of the time delay ? best wishes mark h

Great car, beautifully finished. I like the number plate also, very appropriate!
Thanks Tom
Can't take credit for the number plate though, I saw it on Hershal's GT many years ago.

and what does she think of it now Clayton?
She must rate it pretty highly, I was asked to pick her up from school in it.
Was even given instructions on where to park and at what time

Thanks Mark, I did get there, maybe a few years later than expected......
The paperwork would only last 2 years, had to resubmit it every 2 years and they would updated it with the most current ADR's. Luckily for me there were no major changes to the ICV rules up here, but enough to be a pain.

First thing was first, I needed a build stand and also took delivery of an 016 transaxle (complete with plenty of rust inhibitor......)

Next was to dummy fit the engine and gearbox to see how low I could get the back of the gearbox without exceeding the drive shaft CV angles.
The engine still runs with a slight downhill angle to the front.
In hindsight (don't you just love it...) I should have ponied up and bought a G50 or even a ZF. Could have lowered the engine an 1 1/2" and ran it dead level.
But as I've invested in the 3.22:1 C&P, LSD etc, its staying.

The one thing that I never really did like was that the rear chassis cross member would be visible from the back. Lots of people don't mind this, but I do.
Temporary fitted the body work and centred the wheel arches over the chassis from side to side. Made sure the rear clip fitted up against the spider as best as possible.
From memory there was around 4-5" of chassis below the rear clip.
