Race Car Replicas Lou & Ryan RCR40

First I will like to thank Fran Hall and the entire Race Car Replicas staff for the excellent customer assistance on making this father and son RCR40 build possible.
We will be posting picture as we move along. We Unpacked the chassis and it looks amazing, installed the roof section, installed doors, installed and adjusted door hinges (will come back for more door adjustment and fine tuning at a later time) very satisfied with the fit and alignment of the doors and roof section.

We are having a great time building the car, after building many cars in my life from Ford model A's to Supercharged Model B's and Muscle cars the Ford GT40 has always been on top of the list for me and my son, with such of history behind we will love to finish this iconic Legend Race Car Replicas RCR40 car and enjoy the car for many years to come.

Hi Louis and welcome to the madness that is GT40's, i too am doing a father son project 40 so will be watching with envy, as ours will be a scratch build, i was hoping for an RCR build, but when i enquired Fran gave the last free one away a week earlier. bugger.

cheers Kaspa

You will enjoy the build Louis. I remember those early days, they were good as there was not many parts to take off to do things. As you get close to the end there are parts everywhere!

John I was also going to do a scratch build the body was supply to Universal Studios from RCR to film the Fast Five Movie they got the car and an extra body just in case something happened, I also purchased the laser cut chassis pack and panels from Daren in London and had them ship to my home in LA but sold my 68 Stingray and got the founds to get the RCR 40 from Race Car Replicas.
I have to say Jason your car has been an inspiration and a great resource of information you have done a remarkable Job and a piece of art, what a nice machine you have put together. I most enjoy having just a few parts on the car at this time it makes it so much easier to work in and around the car for now.
I worked on the front clip and radiator support Sunday will post pictures soon, I try to plan efficiency to work on the RCR 40 having two kids and a wife can be a little challenging, this weekend me and my son will be at Laguna Seca for the the NASA regional finals, very grateful, good times.

Cheers

spend some time on the drawing board over the weekend some cutting, fitting and drilling, happy with the out come, good weekend!!

Thanks so much for posting pics of your build....looking forward to watch you build your RCR.
Charles

I've been undecided until last week on what drive train to install on the RCR 40 since I have two options; option one 1969 351W or option two 2003 Cobra terminator, mate to a Porsche Boxter 5 speed transmission, I've chosen the must difficult one (option two):deal::deal: EFI modern motor to a transmission choice that is not the greatest but they are inexpensive and not to many been use on mid engine applications so I guess there is one way to find out how much punishment they can take before gears go flying out.
Will this motor even fit in the chassis and body? was the big question, after many hours with the measuring tape and a bottle of aspirin it all seems possible.
So far it all looks good and really hope I can stick to the plan :chug::chug:

Some of The bigger issues we've seen here are the fitting of exhaust and starter motors as well as the sizeable protrusion of the supercharger pulley into the cabin. That could be a rather large lump in the firewall.. Can you move it backward without the transaxle sticking out of the bodywork?

Finally accomplished some work, made a firewall moved the drivetrain back as far as it would go without interfering the firewall, the transaxle still inside the bodywork, there is about 22mm space between the top of the supercharger to the back window it's a very tight fit.
Looks like the starter motor will bolt up to the adapter plate (to use with Porsche set up) but some trimming will need to be done to the engine block or use a spacer in between the transmission and the adapter plate (to use with ford modular set up) to clear a flex plate for the starter to ring gear starter operation.
Aligning and fitting the rear body clamp now, taking extra care and measuring multiple times to assure straight body lines, lots of cutting and sanding I really dislike this part no matter how hard I try body work always kicks my a..s. Life is good

Hello everyone, started fabricating aluminum outer door handle carriers that actually work really nice they are made out of 1"1/4 aluminum C channel and are attached to the inside the door with fiberglass, I decided to use Porsche 914 door latches bolted to home made aluminum 6061 1/4 aluminum plates

Hi Louis - good to read of your activity here as we were wondering where you'd gone off to...
So it appears that you also have joined the ranks who felt that fiberglassing a 3/8" bolt to the inside of the door was not a long term winner as a method of door handle retention!
Others have done something similar I would guess.
Myself, I made mine of steel and it is connected to my anti-intrusion beam system which really helped stiffen things up and made the door close correctly "repeatably"...
Here is mine -- http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tec...-pardon-intrusion-gt40-safety.html#post265289

Soldier onward!!!

Randy that is a great looking door structure really like the way it fits in between pillar A and B. I have been working on the car when I find the time, I finish the rear clamp section and motor mounts are also install, currently working on the roll cage and door locks, I try using the rollcage overhead section from Darrin but because it is 2" diameter tube the door hit at the 90 degree curve so I had a new one made of 1" 1/2 DOM steel that works great, here are some pictures of where it stands as of now ...
!!!! sorry if there is too many pictures I remember building legos as a child they always Help a bunch !!!

Terminated the Terminator Motor Idea is scraped, still believe is possible but at a high price, after taking cost and labor involved I decided to go with a sbf 302 w maite to G86 Porsche 6 speed, let me just say I get a smile from ear to ear every time I get on this thing, best decision ever and scarry

Looking great.
How is the G86 fit up. Haven't seen many go this route and know a few people that I am in contact with that have considered it.

Thank you Ryan, I can't be any happier with the gear ratios on the G86, works really well with a high rev engine, 289 and 302 have a shorter stroke than a 351 you can get this engines to spin fast with the right cam so this combination is perfect, also having that 6th speed is a plus.
