Audi 016 trans and Porsche 944

Can anyone tell me if the Porsche 944 5-speed transaxel is the same transaxel that was used in the Audi 5000 turbo's (getrag 016)? It's getting hard to find an Audi transaxel but the Porsche 944's are plentiful.

The 944 box does not have a facility for a clutch and the input shaft is totally different. I am not saying that it can not be used , it is just that none of the parts supplied (except the adaptor plate) by the main manufacturers will not fit. As regards to ratios, I can not comment as I have never bothered to check as we do not use the boxes.

Internally they are the same. My 016 box has been retrofitted with a 3.89:1 ring and pinion from a 944 box.
