I have for sale a new black unassembled CAV GT 40 number 0077.

It has always been stored in a climate controlled building with my other vintage cars. The car has optional leather interior and air conditioning. It is complete with the following FACTORY parts to finish the build :

1. 2 rear axle half shafts with bearings.
2. 2 rubber boots for the half shafts.
3. Audi flywheel with ring gear.
4. Pressure plate with adaptor ring.
5. Clutch Disc.
6. Throw out bearing.
7. Clutch slave cylinder.
8. Audi engine to transaxle adaptor.
9. High torque starter motor.
10. Stainless steel exhaust headers.
11. Stainless steel muffler.
12. Stainless steel heat shield with clamp.
13. Audi clutch arm.
14. Pilot bushing.
15. 5 Assorted engine brackets.
16. Engine gauge sending units.
17. 2 Rubber engine mounts.
18. 5 Packages of assorted nuts, bolts and washers.
19. Inside rear view mirror.

The car comes with a completely rebuilt GETRAG TRANSAXLE.

The engine I have is a '68 Ford 302. I bought it from a friend who had been driving the car that it came out of. It is not from a car that had been in a junk yard for years. I disassembled it and had it chemically dipped to dissolve all of the grease and also the rust from the water jackets. This is a $350.00 process, but the block and heads look like new inside and out. I wanted to build my own engine, my own way. I always build engines this way so I can choose each piece myself. I've been building cars for over 50 years {countless engines}. This has always worked well for me. The engine was complete when I got it. I gave away the intake manifold, carburetor and alternator, things no one would use on this car. Everything else is there, timing cover, oil pan, cam, lifters, rocker arms, nuts and bolts. All nuts and bolts and other small parts are in zip lock bags and marked as to where they came from. $60,000.00 US.

I think this should give you a good idea what is with the car and what the engine is. Please call or email if you are interested or need more info. Thank you, Jack 810-441-1065 or [email protected]

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

Would you consider finishing the car with fully built up engine and transmission mounted? If so. what would your price be? Thank you.

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

Thanks Jack, great write up of the details. Looks very complete, and very nice.

There are no wheels, is that correct?

Has the 016 had some upgrades such as LSD or different gearing?

I've always wanted a solid black GT40....looks just plain mean.

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

I bought this car from Jack and I need a set of wheels, can anyone tell me what the back spacing is for the front and rear? And if anyone has a set of wheels for a CAV five pin Hub that they want to sell, please contact me? [email protected] or 513 353 3041.
Thanks Jack, the car is everything you said that it would be. Mary and I got home around 7:00 Friday night, unloaded the car the next morning without any problems.

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

Two good places for these:

PS Vintage Wheels Products

or

:: Welcome To Vintage Wheels ::

Both places will know exactly what you need. The replica halibrands from vintage wheels are pretty common on GT40s (and cobras) and are quite economically priced, though not quite as accurate as the replica halibrands available from psvintagewheels.com

Phil Schmidt has closed PS Vintage Wheels so that option is gone.

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

Thanks guys for the feed back. I've talked with Johann at CAV and ask him for the wheel off sets. It may take him some time to go back to CAV (they are closed until next Monday). So can anyone else furnish the off sets for an early CAV chassis (077)? I'm thinking of putting chrome wire wheels on the car. I think they would look great on an all black car. I must say that the fit and finish on the CAV is fantastic.

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

Ellis, Welcome to the CAV family. Look forward to hearing more on your completion of the car. Wires sounds great....I can't say I've seen a modern replica with a set of wires. Should look unique and certainly cool. The width of the tire/wheel versus trying to fill the wells maybe tough though. Good Luck and post pics!!

Re: New CAV GT40 for sale in Michigan.

You will really enjoy your CAV. Mine gets out just about every weekend and it is just fantastic.
I would echo vintage wheels. I had to replace one of my rears and they were fast and reasonable. I don't know if Bob Lacey is still there but he was great to deal with and is very familiar with CAVs.

My rear was BRO1R 15x10.

You can also try Team III wheels. ET Wheels by Team III Wheels They have a selection of the Halibrand types. On their download page they have some worksheets to compute your spacing and Pitch Center Diameter (PCD).

While you're ordering, save yourself some grief and order forged aluminum knock offs and not the cast ones. Also remember they are both left and right hand threaded depending on which side of the car. (RH thread is fitted to the left side of the car -looking forward from the rear).

Also, let me know if you'd like any checklists etc. we have that you might find useful. We can send them to your e-mail address.

This car looks awesome! Good job on the sale and good job on the purchase. It's transactions like this that build confidence in the GT40 community. Good luck on building her the rest of the way. Not much to go really.
