My GTD40 Show/Track car is for sale. I have enjoyed this car both on the track and on grand tours to the Los Angeles area and up to Seattle and Mount Rainer. The twin electric outside rear view mirrors, cruise control and A/C make this a very nice road car and the 325 hp Ford small block makes it pretty low maintenance as well as gas friendly. On the road trip to Seattle I averaged 18 mpg. Attached are the general specs for the car and details for the engine. I also have the factory build manual in print and CD form, plus a manual I made up covering some of the specific info for this car and included excerpts from 3 Haynes manuals for info on things like the transmission, brake system, A/C, electrical switches etc.

Price $ 75,900 US

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

I forgot to mention That the car is equipped with an Odyssey Dry Cell battery and is registered in California as an SPCNS first sold in 1965. No model year is listed and it has a Calif. vin number.

Nice car. Is it just me or does that 'vette in the second shot look simply enormous compared with the '40?

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

It's not just you, Keith...recently a 40 was shown in a track photo much like that one except the trailing car was a Cobra...the 40 made that Cobra look huge!

I've never been in one...but the GT40 Mk I appears to be a VERY small vehicle...and IMHO the most beautiful vehicle created so far.

Cheers!

Doug

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

I think it has a lot to do with the perspective. Here is a shot with several other cars. The 40 still looks small but not such a huge difference!

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Bud,
Sorry to see you selling your car. It was an inspiration to me while I was building mine. Years ago, I hired an artist I met at a motorcycle show to do a pen and ink drawing for me. Keep it displayed in my computer room. If you like it, could send you a copy. Photobucket has a sale on canvas prints.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Thanks for the offer. See the attached for the probable inspiration for your artist. I love the car and have enjoyed it immensely. Unfortunately at 80 I worry about saddling the kids with selling it so thought I should take on the challenge. The pen and ink rendering is really nice and is kind of period correct for presentation of the 40.

When the band was together. This is a nice car in clean, well kept, condition. It will give many years of enjoyment to someone. Hate to see it leave the group. How about selling it to someone in Texas! Betty will welcome her cousin to her new home.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Had the car at the Goodguys show over the weekend. It is amazing how the really tall guys are drawn to the car. I can handle probably a 6' 3" driver but the 2 gentlemen at 6'5" were just about impossible. With my lowered floor I could handle the head room but the knees under the dash was TIGHT, even with my pedal box moved ahead 1.5" .

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Thank you for showing us the car today. It is an excellent clean build. Very nice, if I could get my wife to sell our bay-area home and move further out, I'd buy it. I was the only one to fit somewhat comfortably today. My brother wants it, but at 6'5 it will need some customization. I just fit at 6'3 and I would do a bubble on top for the extra space if it was mine. Sounds amazing too. This is a great car.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Thanks Ryan . It was great to have you your brother and your dad over to take a serious look at the car. It is always great when true car people show an interest in creation. Just for those who are feint of heart -we have not given upon fitting this car to the giant of the family. There are some pedal box options to explore and the good old Gurney bubble. Just for those who live in places that are difficult to register these cars I am enclosing a copy of how this GT40 replica is registered in Calif. See the attachment.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

This car should import easily into Canada as it is registered as first sold in 1965.

Canadian customs are wise to some US sates titling as a 1965 and will want to see proof of date of first registration for road use. That said it sounds like your car will meet the obligation as being first registered more than 15 years ago.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Just an update. This wonderful car that has been member of the family for so long, has found a new home with another enthusiastic owner on the east coast.

Re: GTD40 is For Sale

Thanks Bud for the update. I'll lock the thread - Hope you will stay around my friend (just to even see me get those Crossfire mirrors on my car :) )
