Superformance GT40 MKII For Sale

I am selling my Superformance GT-40 MKII 2155
$145,000

Lots of pictures here.
GT40 | Kirby's Korner

Two sets of wheels -
Original 15" with Googyear Bluestreak tires
Vintage Wheels 17" with Michelin Pilot Super Sports

Car has 4,200 miles on it.
It has been on the track at TWS, MSR-H and Road America, so yes, it has been driven. The website has a link to an in car video.

You can see it from this guy's car briefly - Texas World Speedway May 4, 2014 chasing GT40 with overlay - YouTube

I have done quite a few modifications. It has a flat firewall by using an electric water pump. I replaced the brake fluid reservoir with a Tilton.

If you need more details, let me know. The website probably has more information than you need.

Location is Magnolia, Texas.

Kirby

Say it ain't so! Sorry to see you leave the brotherhood of GT40 owners (which I reluctantly left last year...)

Something new on the horizon?

I should mention that Kirby was kind enough to let me drive his GT40 a couple of years ago, and it's an experience I won't soon forget. Simply put, it is an absolutely fantastic example of the breed. If one were in a buying mood for a MkII GT40 with LHD, this would probably be the best example out there!

Re: Superformance GT40 MKII For Sale

In addition to the original list, I sat down tonight and tried to remember everything I've done to the car. I've had it since 2007 when Mike Trusty,
Jacke Houpe and I went to Dennis Olthoff's and picked it up.

A more comprehensive list of things that make 2155 what it is:

Interior
- Made my own seats so I could get in to the car and sit with a helmet on. They are covered in leather, but the bolsters are starting to show some wear. I needed something to support me laterally and still give enough leg room and head room. Easily replaced with the stock ‘seats’.
- You know… those foam things that have the rings fall out and give no lateral support.
- A/C and heater fan is controlled by a PWM board and a knob
- All Smiths gauges were replaced with Speedhut. The Smiths ended up in New Zealand.
- I added another gauge… Fuel pressure for the EFI
- The shift lever has been shortened slightly.
- There is a brake bias knob mounted on the dash
- AFR gauge in the ‘center console’
- Rear window replaced by glass version

Suspension
- All stock except…
- I installed Dennis Olthoff’s sway bar setup. Almost magical difference in handling with the larger tires.
- I have the original sway bars ready to go back on if the buyer doesn’t want them.
- I have done the through bolt fix on the parking brakes
- I have installed a more aggressive Wilwood brake pad. I forget which one. It stops.

Exterior
- Silver with black stripes from the factory
- Has some ‘patina’ due to driving it
- Replaced door seals with better ones
- Replaced headlight bulbs with brighter ones
-

Engine - it’s a small block 427ci
- 9.5” iron block SVO
- Aluminum heads - SVO 6049B
- Solid roller camshaft
- Custom EFI with TWM throttle bodies, Electromotive ECU
- Coil on plug with a MSD DIS-4 ignition box triggered by the ECU
- Custom SS 180 headers for the 9.5” block and heads
- No distributor - It’s a cam trigger
- Wet sump with aluminum baffled oil pan.
- Electric Mezier water pump in front - nice flat firewall interior
- Solid motor mounts (originals available if required)

ZF transaxle
- Stock Pantera gearing except for a .642 5th gear. 4:22 diff. I love it.
- Electronic pickup for the speedometer.

And now, after writing all that, the memories flood back and part of me is saying… Don’t sell! Don’t sell!

FWIW,
Kirby

Mike,

You must be getting old... :-)
A 'couple of years ago' was 2009 at the 45th Reunion at Road America!
After I'd had a couple of whatever I was drinking that evening...

I know the feeling...

Uh.......after chasing Kirby around Road America during the all GT40 "exhibition" session at the 2009 event I can personally attest that his car is quick and that "old Kirby" can indeed hustle a fast car around a big boy racing circuit.

Honestly surprised that I haven't received a single bit of interest.

Well, except for all the 'don't sell it!' advice.

Have you considered advertising it here? Cars seem to sell there after varying degrees of time.

You might also take & post multiple photos of the car's interior, suspension, wheels/tires, underside, engine bay, etc., etc. IOW, all the places a buyer would want to inspect if he were viewing the car 'in person'.

More than this?
GT40 | Kirby's Korner

I could do some updated ones though...
I'll try to get one of those 'roundtuits' this weekend.

Thanks,
Kirby

Yeeeeeup...more than that! You'll notice there's not even one photo of the car's interior/dash...nor under the front 'bonnet' (??? whatever it's called!)...nor of its underside...or its brakes/'A' arms...or shots of its engine from multiple angles...or shots of, say, its fluid reservoir install - plumbing in general...blah, blah, blah...

The more 'attention to detail' you can show in the photos, the easier 'tis to 'peek the interest' of a serious buyer.

Check out the photo ads of any successful, high volume exotic dealer. They ALL do that.

Kirby:

The link Mike gave you was for the Cobra Country website. That site is run by Curt Scott who is a very good guy to work with. That's probably the best place to advertise your car, and it's not expensive. Hillbank always lists their cars on the site for $169k or higher, so your pricing will look more attractive by comparison. Many of the cars listed on his site are also purchased by people in Europe.

Re: Superformance GT40 MKII For Sale

Kirby,

BaT (Bring a Trailer) auctions gathers an eclectic mix of cars and is pretty cheap to list with no sellers fee (5% buyers premium). I've watched 3 Ultima's successfully sell in recent months.

As much as we may all loath eBay, dealing with deadbeat bidders etc. it is still IMO the cheapest method of Worldwide exposure for pennies to list.

Good luck with the sale, as the ad had gone quiet I'd assumed it sold and was quite surprised to hear the lack of interest.

Julian

Re: Superformance GT40 MKII For Sale

IMO the forums that cater to the 40 and component cars in general a far better place to sell the car. Though you may get exposure to buyers with pockets most of the so-called exotic dealers don’t understand the car no could they understand or convey what would make a well sorted build better than one with a good paint job. What you usually find from those sellers is 50 pictures from everybody angle, chapter and verse the Ford versus Ferrari story, and little to nothing about anything that makes the car fit for purpose.

At least here you could expect to find someone that has invested the time to understand the difference between the different manufacturers and a well sorted car. Many buyers at those exotics sites think a car that has been tracked means it’s been abused versus developed and tested. Kirby’s car has been tested. There are some talented people here that have built some great cars and you need a buyer that understands the difference. If you are going to buy such a car built by someone else you’d better understand it before you put it to the test.

Good luck with the sale Kirby.

Best,
Kelly
