Re: Manx Classic 2008

Got my set today too.

Could possibly be a larger group going next year... so if you're thinking about going, stick your name down here, so others might be interested in attending too. The more the merrier!

ME - Possibly, subject to no major works commitments over that period.
VEHICLE - t.b.c

Are you thinking of competing Frank? - could be a good venue for one of those SPF MKIIs....?

Reminds me what happened to the Bains Trophy I put my name on? If I have to win it twice for that to happen. Bring it on!

Count me in - for me the Isle of Man is one of the best events of the season, possibly even THE best

Re: Manx Classic 2008

ISLE OF MAN - ITS A WONDERFUL HOLIDAY FOR NON-COMPETITORS TOO.

If you fancy just a holiday you could do worse than consider this weekend - last year was so good. SUBSIDISED HOTEL AND FERRY, QUIET EXCELLENT DRIVING ROADS AND NO SPEED LIMITS. It would be very good if a lot of GT40's were there just having a driving weekend. You don't have to compete or spectate. If you apply for an application form you will receive details of the 'holiday package'. The Manx travel agent is completely separate from the Manx racing club. It will give ferry/hotel prices that start with cheap b and b's. If you can book in the Mount Murray hotel which is serves our purpose well with good car parking. Book early before the bloody Morgans get all the rooms. It will be good practice for the Le mans classic and if last year is anything to go by, it will just get better and more popular.
PS. All above assumes it doesn't rain - thats why you need a good hotel with a pool.
PPS. First person to receive an appication form - please post some price examples.

Re: Manx Classic 2008

Nad and I are keen, dunno what cars might be possible to take yet, hopefully my 40 will be ready with new engine and trans, if not I'll bring a Snake instead, as the MG SV proved itself very slow at this years IOM.

Re: Manx Classic 2008

Mr Bate. I hope next year with the car setup by Welldone Engineering Northern Ltd! that you will be a little more competitive than this year. Paint drying springs to mind. No smart coments or I'll post the video!

Re: Manx Classic 2008

As correctly spotted by John, this thread has been started on the wrong forum, Can it be moved to the GTD40 Club forum (although GT40 Enthusiast Club members are of course more than welcome to join us all at the event)

Smile Re: Manx Classic 2008

Just got back from this event. It was a wonderful few days and thank you to everyone for being such good company. For those who may be interested in next year: £350 for 4 nights in good 4**** hotel and ferry. The cars are well looked after when loading the boat. No speed limits on the roads out of towns - its worth going just for that. If you want a bit more from your car why don't you consider entering an event. You just need overalls, a timing strut and a licence which you can get on the internet. I did my first event and the instructions were not much more than 'when you see the green light, drive as fast as you dare up the hill and stop after the chequered flag.' Needless to say I came last but nobody really minds - its one big social event. This year there were people there who didn't enter but just came along for the holiday. More details on the new GTD website. I am a member of both clubs and wouldn't do anything which damages my precious car. Don't be afraid of being a beginner - give an event a go. it is real good fun...........

Re: Manx Classic 2008

Spot on John, of course everyone wants to do well, but it is definately a big social event and a mini holiday too. Also I too have come last in all events there and again at other mainland events in my earlier competitive seasons.

Competition definately improves/hones your driving skills long term and it's a bundle of fun along the way.
