NEC Classic Car Show 2015

It's that time of year again!

We have negotiated a fantastic spot this year. It's 17m x 9m (56'8" x 30' in old money), and is (as always) bang next door to Ferrari!

The show dates are Friday 13th to Sunday 15th November.

The overall show theme is "She's a Beauty" - this can be a reference to the cars, but also to women in Motorsport.

We're after some ideas for our stand theme, and some feedback as to who may be interested in showing their 'beauty'. As with every year, set-up is on the Thursday, and strip down is on Sunday evening.

Thanks in advance!

You can have the Dax if you want, but compared to some it is not finished to the same "show" standard

However if you want to put on a stand and show all the different marques and can explain the differences it would then fit in

I have some GENUINE peg drive Halibrand wheels and Firestone tyres off a GT40 that I can loan you to help with the display.
Send me a PM and we can discuss delivery if they are of any interest.

Hi Ian, Steve & Bill

Thanks for the offers. I've received a couple of other responses via PM's, so we'll try to work out a theme for the stand and get back to you shortly.

This still leaves us a bit light with regard to cars - anyone else?

Thanks

Darren

Hi Paul - yours is one of the PM's I mentioned in my comment above.

We still need more cars, and inspiration for the stand...

Hi Darren. On the subject of a theme based on "She's a Beauty", may I suggest you display just 2 cars. One with "clothes on" and one naked, i.e. with "clothes off" minus front clip, doors and rear clip so that people can appreciate the engineering and that GT40 beauty isn't only "skin deep"

To achieve this display, you only need two cars that are fully featured on the inside and out, and perhaps as she was not only associated with a GT40 but was accepted to be one of the most beautiful women of her day - Diana Rigg as Mrs Peel. A couple of full size cardboard cut out type photos in classic Avengers pose between the cars would do the trick.

Just an idea to kick about... :)

I agree - the idea of a naked car will certainly attract attention. So...Does anybody have a naked car, or a car with easily removable clips that looks good naked, that they can loan to us for the show?

How about a line up of cars as at Le Mans for the classic Le Mans angled start. A line up of cars similar to one of the period races could be done. Pete Thompson has the club banners with correct period advertising which we have used for similar displays at local events. Pic attached to give a flavour. A mix of Mk1 and Mk2s would be nice. I am not sure how many cars would fit on the stand if the cars were angled.
If you could get Jackie Ickx to turn up and stroll across and get in a Gulf car that would be a bonus!
Cheers
Mike

Darren,

On eBay there is a Mk11 for sale,Gulf Coloured, advertised by Spurr Cars, Sheffield phone 0114|2315000.

Maybe they would put it on the stand, with the added possibility of finding a buyer?

David.

Hi James.

We already have a Mk 3 (Chris Cole's), but if it's a genuine offer, we'd love to have yours too!

Let me know if you'd be happy for us to use it - we need it on stand on the Thursday early afternoon, and it can leave the stand late Sunday afternoon / early evening. You'll be welcome to help on the stand, and as such we can arrange complementary tickets etc.

Cheers!

Hi David

Great idea - I'll drop them a line. The only problem may be if they sell it in the next month or so...

Cheers

Hi James

If it's as nice as it looks in the photos, it will be a great addition to the stand. Can you out the dates in your diary - we'll sort out details closer to the event.

Fingers crossed on a Mk II too!

Plus, if anybody has a car that is nearly finished and can be displayed without any bodywork (i.e. naked), that would be great!

Cheers
