Wiring/Wire connector kit? Sources for one.....

When I was a grad student I had this great kit in the lab that had a lot of 2,4,6,8,10 pin male and female connectors, contacts, pins, and pin insertion tool to make your own connectors. I need something like that again to wire my car up - does anyone know where to purchase such a kit? Thanks,

Ron

Try Mouser or DigiKey. The AMP Mate-N-Lok look a lot like standard automotive-style connectors.

There are three good choices that I am aware of.

The GM weatherpack. It's convenient because replacements are as near as your local Chevy dealer and they are almost weatherproof.

There is a connector called metripac, I think it is a metric version of the weatherpack.

Lastly, there is another european connector, I'm not sure of the name, but I know that some of the hotrod guys are using them.

Look in a recent copy of Rod and Custom and you should find them.

For inside the car, under dash, etc., I used standard non weatherproof connectors from DigiKey. Pretty big selection.

For everything outside the cockpit, Delphi/Packard (GM)weatherpack from Waytek Wire. They also have the metripac versions. There are minimum quanitites, but they are relitively inexpensive. They have the little seal that goes on each wire plus a seal for the two halves.

If you buy them, be sure to get the crimper tool and the pin punch so you can remove pins already snapped in the housing. The weatherpak variety are made for up to six wires.

Waytek also has all kinds of wire, wire ends, circuit breakers, wire loom cover, heat shrink......

Waytek is good...just bought stuff for my airplane from them (fuse block, pins, crimper, etc.). The girl on the phone was an order taker only, but hte prices and delivery were spot on.

Ron,

Checkout McMaster-Carr. The multipole connectors are on pages 689-694 and they have a huge variety that starts around page 670, so odds are good you may find what you need there.

Regards,
Lynn

The GM Weatherpack's can be had at either Jegs or Summit. Very good and at reasonable cost.
